Well I wanted Haula at the time. And i wanted Trochek as well. So it's not really hindsight for me.

That said, I think JB did pretty well considering the position he was in - the position he put himself in to a large degree, imo

- jcragcrumple

I just can’t get their in reality as easy as u do
There were reasons not to acquire Haula,
we already went over this

However,
It does seem to me that Carolina gave up very little for Trocheck
If he gets back to the player he was 3yrs ago,
it’s by far the best trade of the day

He has 1 less point this year than E-Rod and Sheary combined

He makes $800K they make $5 million

- Stripes77

My point is... Impact players were available.... Botts folded like a cheap tent because he LIKES what they have and over values his draft picks...

Bottomline Botterill. Will absolutely destroy a franchise as long as fiscal results are in the black. The amount of money he has saved the arena by cutting back straw supplies from DelNo would cripple you. This guy isn't competing with Yzerman, Armstrong or Holland. He's competing with Zuckerberg and Cook.

But the reasons not to acquire him turned out to be wrong.

Whatever, there's no point getting into this again and I don't feel like bashing Botterill right now. We didnt get Trochek. Let's see how Kahunaville looks.

Sort of lateral movement that's cheaper and fits the timeline better. About what you would expect from deadline day. I do like the move much more than trading them separately for 4th/5th rounders.
- Michael Ghofrani

Agreed. A fifth rounder turning into Kahun is really a win, and this guy is already at the NHL level.

He seems to have some decent skills. Given that Sheary was getting 1:14 of PP time a night, that time might end up going to Kahun (or could be Simmonds or Okposo that get it).

We only have four forwards under contract next year at the NHL level though, and this is just another guy who isn't signed that needs a team friendly contract to be worth keeping around.

Unless Kahun goes on an absolute tear I suspect they'll be able to get him on a team friendly-ish deal.

He is arbitration eligible though

If you expected a move today that was going to really move the needle then I can't help you there

This team isn't ready to be that team to give up a 1st round draft pick this close to the playoffs with them on the outside looking in.

They moved players with expiring contract for a pending RFA who is more productive than those two

They added some leadership and some grit in Simmonds for a 5th rounder

They added and sold on the same day

Only thing I would have liked is one of the D men to get moved out

Botts has the off-season to make a big time move and he better do that or this team is going to be more of the same

I guess

Does he get credit for being right about not trading for PK Subban, Kessel, etc ???

That’s gotta work both ways if you’re gonna do that for Haula
