I said it at the beginning of the year, playing meaningful hockey into March will benefit this team long term. Whether they make it or not (not likely, I know) the confidence of just knowing you belong can go a ways. I think this was a move around that. Even if it's just to hang onto where they are right now in the standings.

What message would it have sent to trade away whatever UFA slop they have and let the team rot away the rest of the season? I'm effin pumped. Simmer can play on my hockey team any day.

Well, a young team who had playoff aspirations going in to the season just ate half his salary and only got a 5th round pick in return

so it would seem pretty clear they think he has negative value being on the roster

- robz228

If the season is over, get rid of your players now and start a long pre season and call your guys up and get them NHL experience. A 5th is a 5th.
We have no reason to keep any UFA. Sign them now if you want to keep them or trade them away. That part is simple.

its a risk having him on the ice, that is the issue.

Definitely low in the gas tank but it's a low risk move.
Upside is solid net front presence on the PP and although risto has been fine there I wouldnt mind having someone more expendable standing in front of eichel and olofsson bombs away.

This trade is fine. Stop with the hysterical overreactions.

I'm more worried about the continual misuse of "their", "there", and "they're" on this site than I am about this trade. That and people who use "should of" in a sentence.

Edit: and the clown that thinks the 1980 Miracle on Ice team aren't allowed to have THEIR own opinion.

Did u see the Eichel interview last week?
He’s not playing like it’s over
So even though getting to the playoffs is still unlikely,
I think Jack would’ve been pretty p!ssed off of guys like Elie & Dea are getting called up to play here the rest of the year while he’s still busting his a$$ to get to the playoffs

Wow, Parise's contract is an albatross.

Minnesota got lucky unloading that thing.

Haha that's certainly helpful too. He's got 5 ppgs on the year so hes still effective at that part of the game.

Bill Guerin, on what Jim Rutherford told him about being a GM:

"Billy, never try to win a trade. Don’t try to screw the other guy over. Make a fair trade and you’ll get more deals done."

So it shouldn’t be considered an impossibility to shed KO’s contract. And it shouldn’t cost a top 10 pick.

I’d love William Karlsson,
but I’d be shocked if they move him
