I know we see him night in and night out, but he has the skill to turn it around. If he goes back to his rookie year I’d go as far as to say CAR wins the trade. It’s a no brained for us to make this deal but just pointing out it could work out for both sides.

I'm still very curious to see the details of this deal. There's no way we retain salary on a contract with that much term, and in such a deep draft this year it's odd they would move a 1st after just acquiring vatanen, without addressing their goaltending. All pretty confusing but I'm thrilled right now.

I like Kreider too but if Pageau got that kind of haul from the islanders imagine what we would have gotten for Kreider. I’m fine with the salary but 7 years is much. The thing is, trading Kreider for picks and prospects essentially kicks this rebuild down the road another few years. If his contract demands were crazy, you can't give it to him, but 7 x $6.5 is reasonable for a UFA, even if we all would've liked it to be a couple years shorter. Jeff Gorton pretty much told the fans and players today that he expects us to be competing for the cup starting next year. As a fan you can't ask for any more than that
