Eh, Crow has been just as good. There are only so many dollars. I'm happy to see him go but I'm sure I am in the minority there. - fattybeef
I was watching comcast sportsnet and they had a half hour show on tonight recapping the action today. At the end of the segment, they (Konroyd, Mayers, and Pat Boyle) were talking about what the Hawks will do with Crawford. Everyone agreed that they will resign him and Jamal Mayers threw out $6m x 3yr number. Seems pretty high to me.
Rebroadcast tonight at 11 bells for anyone interested.

no...hawks will not sign crow for 18 mil for 3 years...that seems way out of line for an end of the road goalie..
i could see 8 mil for 2 years with alot of incentives...no nmc |

the stanbow/lehner spin kinda stinks
1. lehner camp claims stanbow never offered a contract
2. yet their was talk that the hawks did offer a contract about a month ago
3. Lehner says he would have taken a 3 year term; but about 3 weeks ago he was clear about no discount and he had earned stability and a long term contract...

Doesn't mean Seattle will take them. Murphy is one I suspect they would protect at this point. They won't need to protect their young guys like Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell and that group. - Elbows15
I’m with you Maatta would be the d-man required for the draft |

A lot of comments on Bowman today. Just asking....... Has the prospect pipeline in recent years been deeper at goalie, dmen, bottom 6 defenders? I am not saying there is a elite goalie prospect, two top pairing defender prospects, complete bottom 6 NHL forwards. But there could be just as easily as not. The prospect pool is shallow for top 6 forwards. But Dach has potential. Nylander has not shown much but he is only 21. Kane and Toews, are still pretty good. Kubalik shows promise. Saad is decent. ADB might not be a perennial 40 goal scorer, but I think he will rebound from an off year. We probably will have a top 10 pick this year. The last few years have ranged from so so to awful. But this could be an interesting team to follow for the next three years. |

a complete rebuild mode is not in the picture as long as 19, 88, 2, 7 and 50 are here...so we will continue to see tweaks and add a piece...some work and most don't
the three major issues have now been a problem for the last three years: a clown skates pp, 5x5 possession is average at best, and a defense that is mostly poor...
why this is the case...not smart enough to figure out... |

Hawks didn't want to retain salary to fit performance bonuses on this year's cap. Can't use LTIR for performance bonuses, apparently. - Elbows15

It's midnight and Sikura is still in the Blackhawk organization. Talk about your epic fails. |

Did they get enough for Gustafsson and Lehner? Who knows and who cares - let's move on.
The course is now set - get the young players as much experience as possible. Have a backup goalie try out. Decide if Strome is a center or wing and then decide to keep him and play him there or not. Find out if Nylander is worth more of a wait.
Then hope we win the lottery and draft Alexis Lafreniere - he and Dach and Kane would be a sah-weet line. |

I wouldn't say Chicago would never do that. Stan has a tendency to reward core players and over pay or add certain terms and conditions into their contracts.
Look at it from Crawford's point of view why go from 6milkion a year backwards ? Crawf9rd knows Chicago is not in any position of leverage with solid goaltending backup. |

No but there are other UFA's on the market they could possibly go after if their 36 yo net minder tries to play hardball.
Do you think at the end of their deals and they still have some decent years left that Kane and Toews are getting $10.5M again? |

Trade grades from Custance in the Athletic...
Chicago Blackhawks: C
Goalies are tough to trade on the last day of the deadline. That GM Stan Bowman found a taker for Robin Lehner and got a second-round pick was a positive. But the return for Erik Gustafsson was a little light (a 2020 third-round pick) for a 27-year-old defenseman coming off a 60-point season. But the market is what the market is.
“Nobody wants to give up assets for a guy who can’t play defense,” said an NHL source.
I'd agree. It's not like Stan made out like a bandit nor was it the epic, tragic fail as was characterized by some.
He got back the picks he lost in the Shaw trade along with some potential GT'ing depth and what appears to be another decent D prospect. Can never have too many and hopefully now as a result we are going to start seeing defensive depth replenished from within vs always having to go outside the system.
As far as Subban goes, someone alluded to it earlier about Waite working with him. Haven't really seen him but maybe he can help him turn the corner. |

Where is there to go? Committed Indian is a PoS that shut down their board years ago and r/hawks is Homer's paradise. - Fat_Tony_Amonte
Tell me about it.
I don't think anyone on that site watches an NHL game not involving the Hawks. If they did they would see how far this team has to go.
They're more concerned about what freebie is being offered on game day and which of the Hawks is the cutest. Their use of nicknames for the players is sickening. |

Yeah I stopped going to r/hawks because any time you share an opinion that's out of line with their homer-isms, you get down-voted to the abyss. |

So other NHL teams DO scout players. Who'd of thunk it.
A little clarity on the picks. The #2 the Hawks got is PIT's pick. The #3 looks like it will be the earlier of one of CAL or EDM.

While there were a lot of trades the TDL I don't think anyone gave up a first round pick for a rental. 1st rounders were given for players with term left on their deal or they we re-signed. Considering this plus the fact that the market for goalies at the TDL is less than forwards/defensemenI don't think the return for Lehner was too bad.
The return for Gus was fair too, I just think Stan should have dealt him in the summer. I doubt anyone would have given up a first for Gus at that time, but maybe a second and a prospect. |

True their are other UFA 's hitting the market. Stan has a tendency to be loyal to a fault, not saying one way or another if it good or bad, just pointing out the perception.
If Chicago was willing to pay Lehner a ball park range of 6 to 8 million but according to reports it was the term as a sticking point, how do you if your Stan justify a proven goaltender who is still playing well , with the exception of his concussion history not paying him 6 million for 2 to 3 years and lockdown that area while Chicago figures out it's next goaltender ? |

Would have been a late-2nd I think anyways - VGK will likely get out of the first round, possibly even out of the second, given Pacific competition.
Pittsburgh will likely go out in the 2nd. |
