This is Gustafsson's record prior to last season:
2011-12 Sweden 41 games 3+4=7
2012-13 Sweden 49 games 7+16=23
2013-14 Sweden 50 games 2+18=20
2014-15 Sweden 55 games 4+25=29
2017-18 Rockford 25 games 3+14+17
His Chicago stats were similar - 4 seasons - until last season - never double-digits in goals, never more than 1 goal every 7 games, never better than 1 point every 2 games.
Then last season he busts out - and this season reverts to his mean. And, of course, the defensive deficiencies.
How is he worth any more than a 3rd round pick? - StLBravesFan
because it is trade deadline day on this board |

Im fine with the return. The concern was he would nothing. Now on to the new HC search. - z1990z
Might as well keep the entire band of idiots behind the bench now through years end.
Maybe a little JC magic can net another lottery pick
Keep Carpenter as the line 2 center! |

Who is to say CAR even offered anything for Lehner?
Did they go out and acquire another goaltender, since the Hawks asking price was allegedly "too high"? - PatShart
There was one good Goalie to get...Lehner. That was it. And one maybe two teams looking to improve their Goaltending. They didn't like the price so they moved on and decided to boost their Defensive Group instead of paying for Lehner |

The Kotex mafia finally gets their Gus trade. So after 1000 plus consecutive days of female doging about that, what is the over under of days we have to hear testimony on the value received?
Traffic on the board should be cut by 70%.
Can't wait to learn who the new whipping boy will be? Who is next to get the wrath of hysterical obsession?

Keith for the rest of the season on the PP and Subban in goal works nicely for our tank. |

That’s a fair interpretation.
But for a team like Carolina who is top-10 in GA, #1 in SA, and lost their best offensive d-man and will be without him long-term, might Gus have made more sense to them?
We can do this all day long. I’m not here to pick fights. I’m just under the impression that Stan overplayed his hand, that’s all. - TommyHawk
No, not really.
They have Jake Gardiner still back there if they can ever get him going. |

They are waiting for the first guy to respond on this and then they will all pile on, doing their best to drive down the value of said player. |

Despite the witty name-calling, Gus is what he is. A below average defender who had spurts of good offensive production. You cannot defend a lot of the poor choices he made and at 27yrs old he had not improved his D all that much. They got about what could be expected back and now hands are washed.
We know you liked him, but considering where this team is (and where it is going) he was just a guy in the way of the younger D coming up, and not a guy that you could truly justify playing over them.
My money is on Saad to be the biggest point of contention for the next year, with ADB a close second (unless he starts to put it together again for the last games of this year). Either way, barring a miracle, this team will be mildly competitive for the next 1-1.5 years and ideally kick things into gear after that. |

I mean he's WAY better than what we've been rolling with all year, but I guess this is why we had 4 back up goalies and no starters. |

Bet you're feeling pretty good with the additions your Canes made today. I'm sure you'd be happier with Lehner in net but still not bad |

Alright I'm outta here. Thought I'd give the site a chance to support a friend on here but now I see why HockeyBuzz has the reputation of being a site for homers and the intellectually disabled. There are some good guys on here but the majority of you are a bunch of troglodytes who seem perfectly content making arguments not based on numbers, stats or even logic in general. It's no wonder so many people come here and then leave. Please for the love of god stay here forever. You'd be doing the entire Hawks fanbase a favor.

watch how Carolina and Colorado's goaltenders suck in the play-offs. Theyd be wishing they gave what Stan wanted for Lehner |

yeah pretty much.
Certainly will help given the big time injuries. And Trochek is a real nice piece moving forward.
Aho-Trochek-Staal down the middle is pretty solid. |

I'm sorry.... When it mattered!? It hasn't mattered all season and the fact you can't see that is ludicrous. You deserve to watch this poop team. - Toew Drags 4 Daze
If it hasn't mattered all season then why would he want to play in Chicago long term? Looks like a win-win for everyone but you. |

Interesting story if true. Why involve a 3rd team to retain salary? - ikeane
Because Bowman knew if he held back part of Lehner's salary, he would have been roasted even more on this blog. |

Of note
Don Waddell says he doesn't expect the goalies to be out for more than a couple weeks at most, which is part of why he wasn't willing to give up assets for another one as a rental. |

Alluded to here by others, but probably a good explanation of the situation:
Things didn’t really play in the Hawks’ favor given their best rental trade candidates were a offensive-minded D whose point production is down 42% this year and a goalie with a .906 SV% in his last 20 starts. You want to sell high but the timing worked against them there. |

Cap space for performance bonuses -cannot use LTIR for that.
Looks like we gained space for 1 more contact -we stand at 46/50 according to Cap Friendly. |
