Because only 31 guys get to be drafted in the first round then another 31 in the second round - Abadseed
Or maybe there's a reason he fell two whole draft rounds from his predicted spot. |

Wow. I thought the posters on this blog were divided before, but this is crazy. Either Bowman got a somewhat decent return or Bowman gave away Gus and Lehner. Not much middle ground. Maybe those that went in not liking Bowman found reasons to dislike him even more.
I am not sure what people thought was a realistic return for Lehner a very very good rental goalie with some baggage that is expecting a big pay day and for Gus a rental "defender" (a defender in name only, because the "floater" position has not been invented yet) who only had one very good year offensively.

That's the argument you're going with? You don't need to see games to see advanced stats. There's numbers for everything. Lehner was 10 damn wins above replacement level goalies. TEN. - Toew Drags 4 Daze
Unless Fleury is hurt, Lehner will not be taking off his baseball cap during the playoffs.
There is a team in Toronto that primarily uses advanced stats for making personnel decisions, how is that going for them?

Lehner's comments about not taking a discount were more than likely his signal back to the front office that to stay with this s***show he needed to be paid big time, let alone no discount.
Good for RL. Its going to be three more years, so why waste your prime performance and earning years backing up a team trending from bad to worse.

So you're fine with trading away a Vezina caliber goalie who was willing to take a bridge deal with the Hawks for 3 pieces that don't help them in any way in the immediate future? FOH. - Toew Drags 4 Daze
He has stated numerous times, publicly, that he was not taking a discount to sign a contract. I'm not putting much, if any, weight into some nonsense that Laz spewed out there because he liked writing about and interesting guy.
I don't understand why people think this team is going to be competitive soon. They may want to, but they do not have the depth to do so unless a lot of their young guys grow up really fast. Their older D are either broken down or slow, and their younger D (outside of Murphy) are immensely inexperienced and need to learn how to play the game.
As many have stated repeatedly, we are short about 2 top 6 , and/or need to identify a solid 3rd line. The rebuild started a couple years ago. We are in the middle of it. We don't have a competitive immediate future unless every star aligns perfectly. |

I'm sorry.... When it mattered!? It hasn't mattered all season and the fact you can't see that is ludicrous. You deserve to watch this poop team. |

Wait what?
I get Gus was having a down season, but he was the sole reason this team was winning games in the spring last year. He WAS the PP. Just because the PP has been disastrous all season doesn’t mean he deserves all the blame. Yes, he’s a one-dimensional, glorified PP-specialist, but he wasn’t as bad as we made him seem, and he had more value than we give him credit for.
Lehner a backup goalie? That’s news to me. He’s been clearly struggling lately, but if he wasn’t keeping this team afloat while Crawford was brutal and the rest of the team was earlier on, this team is likely vying with the Red Wings for Alexis L in June. - TommyHawk
On Gus.....have you read about him on this board? He's in the bottom 5% of players in the league, and now there's complaints about the return? I love this place.
Did the Cup window close without you knowing it? |

Just so I know I am not losing my mind - is this a good summary of the last cople hours here on the HB board? Most were pissing and moaning because Stan was not making any moves. Stan moves 2 players we all expected to move. Most are pissing and moaning because Stan moved players and are not happy with the return.
Maybe most here just like to piss and moan. |

Saad was supposed to be a top 5 pick his draft year and fell all the way to 43rd where you know who picked him.
If he was a tad taller, DeBrincat wouldn't have lasted til the second round his draft year. |

Also the fact that you're basing trades off a few games instead of a seasons worth of statistics shows your mental capacity. |

Exactly...
Speaking of Saad...anyone else find it interesting that things were hot and heavy with him this morning and that got cold REAL quick...only guys expiring got moved...could this mean that Stan isn't going to be lasting beyond this season?? |

They got exactly what I expected. So we are trading Gus after a down year? That sieve has had down years ever since he came to the NHL. Lehner for a 2nd, good riddance, we added two picks and subtracted a below average Dman, and a self centered overrated goalie. I’m okay with the moves, now let’s get another top five pick for our rebuild. Go Hawks! |

Like that scrub Hjarllmarsson once did... |

I think all that bridge contract talk was his camp trying to save some face for the "I'm not taking a discount talks."
Let's say they didn't trade him because the Hawks wanted to re-sign him...who's to say he actually wanted to resign here.
AGAIN...
I'd rather get SOMETHING for him then lose him for NOTHING - Savetheembers33
