@Sportsnet “Brandon Saad is in play.”

--

I can only see Saad going if there is a younger, dynamic player included in a package that the Hawks can plug into the lineup now or at least next year. Maybe this player isn't in the NHL right now but on the cusp of being an NHLer.

Guys like Lias Andersson and Puljujarvi come to mind. <- no I'm not suggesting those trades but guys like that.

- Tyler Cameron

I'm not sure how much younger you want to get - Saad is 27 and is proven. His issue is his next contract, which I expect to be about the same as his current one - $6MM cap hit.

I wouldn't move him unless they potentially solve two position issues - a pick and a good prospect.

The fact that they won’t meet lehner term per multiple reports tells me it’s not expected to truly contend anytime soon.

Crawford on 1-2 year deal can be a band aid until then. Also gives them time to evaluate the lakinen(spell) or Delia kids to see if they could be a long term solution.

Don’t trade picks. Don’t lock up anyone for a considerable amount of time moving forward until the window starts to open again. They need as much cap flexibility as soon as possible to navigate.

- SteveRain

I'm not advocating on resigning Lehner, I was before but reality and common sense has set in.

I'm also not sold on the benefits of bring back a 35 year old goalie who has had multiple concussions, to be the starter on a weak defensive team.

Trade Crawford get the picks or prospects and if Chicago is bent on resigning Crawford try yo in free agency.

But use the last 20 games to evaluate your depth.

There were 23 trades at the trade deadline last year, you would think Stan will have at least one.
- LAHawk

Gus will be traded, book it Danno.

Morning

Expectations for the day?

Mine

Gus 100% goes
Lehner if not extended has to go. Keeping him and flipping him prior to 7/1 will only further lower the return

Could go

Saad....somebody is going to panic and miss on kreider. They may be stupid/panicked enough to offer enough to get saad from bowman.

Strome....id love to see piano mover/concrete shoes moved. Don’t think anyone will pay the high price

- SteveRain

Hey Steve,

Don't really have any. What happens, happens it's unlikely anything earth shattering will occur.

Due to the optics and future handling/relationship with players, especially star players I don't think it's wise to move Crawford unless he is 100% on board with it.

I expect Gus to be gone. Saad possibly could bring back a solid return. If you move Strome it's best to do it after a good year not after an injury plagued sub par season.

What if Crawford refuses to accept a trade?
- paulr

If I recall he has in his contract a 10 team list. So I do believe he can be moved

Why the hell should Stan have gone after kolvachuk? The last thing the Hawks need is an aging Russian mercenary who left a previous team hanging.
- kwolf68

And he is still getting paid by NJ and LA.

I wouldn't mind Stan standing pat.

Stan is already late to the game if you look at what Bergevan of the Habs has already accomplished and is probably not done yet. Bergevan invested one 4th round pick on 2 players obtained in the last 2 months and turned them into 2 seconds and one third. That's the kind of GM'ing you need during a rebuild. He harvested a nice haul from nothing (maybe more than Stan will receive for real assets).

TRADE:

@TSNBobMcKenzie
OTT trades Namestnikov to COL for a fourth-round pick in 2021, per
@DarrenDreger

--

And it begins.

Well, not for Stan.

OTT now has 13 picks(!) in the 2020 draft. And I wouldn't be surprised to see them add another couple by the end of the day.

Wait...not close because Eklund doesnt report it?

The guy who has the Hawks getting Malkin and trading Toews and Keith to LA for Doughty?

- PatShart

Perhaps not close because NO NATIONAL HOCKEY PRESS is reporting anything on the Hawks - our favorite franchise is an afterthought.

Listened to XM Hockey Channel for an hour this morning - nothing about any Chicago rumors - talk about goalie moves limited to Lundqvist or Giorgyev (I have no idea how to spell that). Nothing on TSN.ca, Nothing on The Hockey News.

No way!! Foster has a 0.00 GAA!!!! And while he can't drive a zamboni, he is an accountant and that is his bond with Bowman.

I’ve got a [good] feeling Stan does his job today.

Cautiously optimistic about whatever haul(s) we end up getting by moving out Gus, Lehner, etc. I’d even move Craw as well, bring up two of the kids for the rest of the season to see what we’ve got, continue to fall a bit in the standings, and re-evaluate in the offseason.

Still hoping the Sorokin “trade” is still on the table and is re-visited.

Quenneville was a great coach for the blackhawks. However, it was time for him to move one. Hockey changed and this team was no longer competitive. A rebuild had already begun and he wasn't the right coach for that.

Stan Bowman was a solid GM for the hawks. He brilliantly retooled the team through each of the 3 cups. However, I believe this trade deadline further symbolizes his time with the club is fading. We have peaked, now its time for a fresh start.

Didn't like the two that Ayers let in.

If he can't come in cold and make saves, who needs him....

Hey, I'm with ya. I'd rather keep him.

If Saad plays out this year scoring he could hit 25 goals. Next year, if he can score at that rate or higher, I think his next contract could be $7M+ which may not be what the Hawks will want to pay.

Time will tell though.

I think Saad moving is less likely than a Gus or Lehner.

He's a bum. Don't want him anywhere near Madison. For the Capitals getting him makes some sense, lightning in a bottle, maybe he'll be inspired by playing with Ovie. But for the Hawks? He's a terrible idea on every level.

Speaking of more assets for OTT.

Looks like Pageau is heading to NYI.

My take is it's 95% or greater Gus is gone. In fact, I bet Stan pretty much has a deal hammered out, which is why he has not been playing.

I have a sick feeling that we will be very disappointed in Bowman today after comparing his moves to those of other GM's on rebuilding teams.
