I was all for moving both players. It would be foolish not to - especially if they aren’t long-term fits for the organization.

But let’s call a spade a spade here - Gus was our best offensive weapon on defense, and Lehner was the better goalie for most of the year.

Without Gus driving any semblance of an offense from the back end, and with Crow being one hit to the head away from permanent brain damage, this team is really, really going to struggle in the coming months. But at this point we are full-on embracing the tank.

Gus was having a down year. So we ask why wait until now and not deal him last summer? Calgary is hoping to get lucky and realize 60 point Gus in this deal. What is his value if he's on that kind of a scoring pace right now? Probably a first round pick. If he had this current level of production last season, what's that value? Probably a bag of pucks and some tape. So we have to ascertain the value is somewhere in between these two levels, and it's based on the probability the acquiring team has of realizing his peak production.

From what I read he was actually pegged for the second round and slid because of his offense potential. They say he is an excellent passer and puck moving def but he errs on the side of caution to much and is a excellent shut down def.
