That’s exactly it.

They gave up a 2, 3, and 7 for Shaw.

They got back a (worse) 2, 3, and equivalent of 7 (Subban) for Lehner (top goalie on the market) and Gus.

Gross. Gross. Gross.

- TommyHawk

Gus (horrible defender...and if he is supposed to be a PP catalyst, why are they dead last on the PP?)and Lehner (back up goalie) cost the Hawks nothing. No draft capital, no players, no picks

They turned those 2 nothings to a 2nd and a 3rd round pick

I just looked one up. This was from when he was drafted in '18

https://lastwordonhockey....av-demin-scouting-report/

Seems like a low risk high reward kinda guy to get. Solid on both ends of the ice. Has some ability to run the point on a PP with a good shot. Seems like he's highly regarded on the Defensive end.

From the article for comparison...

"Demin plays a similar style to Alex Pietrangelo, however this is a style comparison only and not an indication of potential or ability."

So maybe he’s a legit prospect and not just bait to get Mitchell to sign?

yes... he is and its pure BS about him not being a team guy...everything i have heard from the beat guys and other sources say nothing else...

i don't think there is much to argue about his performance...he was great other than the last 4-5 games...with out him the first 20-30 games this (frank)n team is south of the kings... craw did not play well his first 5-6 games

- bogiedoc

So the Hawks got a low 2nd Rd pick, some guy named Slava Demin and another poop goalie ala Anton Forsberg for Lehner... Subban was bad on a team that actually plays good defense, I'm sure he'll do great backing up Crawford next year.

Un(frank)ingreal

Every single time Stan waits until the final minutes of the trade deadline he gets fleeced. And I don't want to hear about how they couldn't have gotten more for him because of his contract. Maybe if the organization woke up and realized two weeks ago that this team wasn't a playoff team, it doesn't get to the point where Bowman is boxed in and forced to take whatever return he can get.

Another trade deadline completely mismanaged because the FO refuses to see what's in front of them. This organization is a joke now. People literally laughing at the return on TSN and NHL Network. I'm embarrassed to be a fan of this team today and if you're not, you're part of the problem. The FO will keep spinning the BS while you all lather it up.

The likelihood that Bowman drafts anyone decent enough with a low 2nd and a 3rd pick to help this team in the next 3 years is basically penis. I'm so done with these clowns.

If the return for Lehner and Gus is a 2nd,3rd, Prospect, & Subban I think it's a decent haul.

I believe this was the market for these two types of players.

As always the case we tend to overvalue our own. I do think if Bowman and company were expecting more and were underwhelmed then they need to take a look at internal scouting because things are certainly off if that's the case.

How did Bowman get fleeced? He moved two guys who weren’t needed and got a couple of drafts picks and a prospect back. Getting fleeced would be something like trading Patrick Kane for a fifth round pick.

Wait what?

I get Gus was having a down season, but he was the sole reason this team was winning games in the spring last year. He WAS the PP. Just because the PP has been disastrous all season doesn’t mean he deserves all the blame. Yes, he’s a one-dimensional, glorified PP-specialist, but he wasn’t as bad as we made him seem, and he had more value than we give him credit for.

Lehner a backup goalie? That’s news to me. He’s been clearly struggling lately, but if he wasn’t keeping this team afloat while Crawford was brutal and the rest of the team was earlier on, this team is likely vying with the Red Wings for Alexis L in June.

A good goaltender is an important part of a rebuild during the transition. It helps you evaluate the team playing in front of them. That was a big mistake of Edmonton, Toronto, Buffalo, etc...
- -Doh-

This is a demonstrably untrue old hockey "truism." The key is finding a hot goalie, not an expensive one.

The more germane thing those 3 rebuilding franchises had in common was some of the worst skater depth in the NHL, especially on defense.

So you're fine with trading away a Vezina caliber goalie who was willing to take a bridge deal with the Hawks for 3 pieces that don't help them in any way in the immediate future? FOH.

Yeah the Lehner as a backup goalie talk is nonsense.

I'm not on the "this is ridiculous!" end of things as far as return goes for either guy.

Gus wasn't gonna stay. He's addition by subtraction 100% IMO AND they got a Draft pick that can be used to add another kid to the prospect pool OR be used to get someone who can help them win now.

Lehner would be awesome to have on this team...IF we were good. Paying 6-7M for the next half a decade for a Goalie is not ideal when you have other clear BIG holes on this team.. Now, if the Hawks clear a roster spot or two before FA and bring him back at a reasonable amount I'd be okay with it.

I'd rather trade both of them for SOMETHING than keep both and probably lose them for NOTHING

I was all for moving both players. It would be foolish not to - especially if they aren’t long-term fits for the organization.

But let’s call a spade a spade here - Gus was our best offensive weapon on defense, and Lehner was the better goalie for most of the year.

Without Gus driving any semblance of an offense from the back end, and with Crow being one hit to the head away from permanent brain damage, this team is really, really going to struggle in the coming months. But at this point we are full-on embracing the tank.

When the playoffs start for Vegas and assuming both healthy, who is the starter and who is the backup between Fleury and Lehner?

And Gus was the 'sole reason' the team 'won' last year?

I missed all that winning and Gus driving that play.

The Hawks got a worst second then there own giving up for Shaw the third his yet to be determined as it’s next years third a prospect and a rfa goalie we can just walk away from but his cap hit is less then lenhers now this should give the hawks enough space to pay all of the performance bonus this year on this years cap.

Is Subban better than Lehner in the shootout? If so just got to get there when he is playing.
