Because you don't understand the value on goalies. They generally don't return much values. A 2nd and a prospect is an average returns for a goalie.

Exactly it’s an “average return”

Stan should have signed Lehner and he obviously waited too long I know he could have gotten more. Epic fail...(red font)
- rpeters01

2nd and a prospect works for me. The fail would have been not finding a way to move him and come July 1st lose him with nothing to show for it.

Krebs and Glass are pretty good prospects. Doubt they are in the deal but they have prospects.
- Elbows15

Glass would be insane. The kid is still 20 and was a top 6 pick. If the prospect is Glass then that’s incredible. Like you I doubt it

Ehhhhhh, there's a reason he's bounced around. I generally like players who avoid the cliches but kinda messed up when a guy who hasn't won anything throws his team under the bus.

Edit: and by reason i mean outside of his substance abuse issues and just a personality thing.

How the hell did Wilson pull a 1st round pick for Barclay Goodrow?

It's odd (not in a good way) that the Hawks haven't announced these trades.

They're in a rebuild. What don't you understand about that ?
- GPHawksfan

Do understand that, then why bring Crawford back, and go with a young goaltender instead?

I'd rather than an "average return" than no return and him walk in FA.

How much better does it look if Lehner comes back to the Hawks in July?

Perhaps they're willing to give him what he wants BUT they can't right now because they need to clear some salary like Maatta before they can commit to him long term like that. So they agreed to part ways now and pick back up their talks in FA to bring him back.

Not saying that's what is gonna happen but it's possible and makes the return look that much better

ok...did not see vegas on the radar for lehner...

1. fleury has two years left
2. he is not going to play much behind fleury
3. why would would vegas want him as rental

odd fit for me...

i liked lehner...i know many here didn't ..yeah he had rough couple of week but entire team took a dive...

i wish him well and success and that the finds a hockey home long term...

No way it'd be Glass. He's playing a role on that team right now. It'll be someone who's still in the minors or Juniors

Totally fine with CC coming back for a year. Allows a more natural break in period for a young netminder. Big jump from the AHL to the NHL.

He flipped two guys not in the long term plans for picks. What’s the issue?

If they signed lehner for 7-9 aav for 8 years and had to deal saad and or strome or debrincat then what?

Is what it is. They got something and now we can move along.

So apparently Barclay Goodrow just landed the Sharks a 1st round pick...

IMO if Goodrow and Skjei are worth 1st rounders then Lehner certainly should have been as well.

Carolina giving away 1st round pick here

Very dumb

Not like they’re good enough to make it out of the East anyways, with or without Skjei. Might as well keep your 1st round picks...

- SimpleJack

My guess is the Canes recover a 1st round pick by trading one of their excess dmen before the draft.

Opportunity might not have been there. No way Vegas gives a 1st round for Lehner when they have a healthy Fleure for 2 more years.

Agreed 110%

...BUT what if they got Lehner to ride him during the rest of the year and let MAF rest more so he's ready to go at a high level for the Playoffs? Seems like a very smart plan IMO.

Apparently, not in the opinion of GMs in need of goalie
