Saad fetches a good return if he is moved. His style is perfect in a complimentary role, designed for a playoff run(strong two way game). And he has two years! - Bjm84
I think so too and if someone wanted him bad enough, I think the Hawks should ask for the moon, kind of like you suggested above...first rounder and a high end prospect. |

High end prospect being either Newhook or Byram. If I had my choice between the two, I'd honestly nab Newhook. |

Why the hell should Stan have gone after kolvachuk? The last thing the Hawks need is an aging Russian mercenary who left a previous team hanging. - kwolf68
The Hawks already have their elder statesmen in the form of the Core. As has been the case this year for the most part and even more so the next few should be about overhauling the roster with youth.
If he lightbulb ever firmly clicks on for Nylander, that could give you a pretty solid top 6-9. Mostly counting on continued development from Kirby. Kubes is a keeper, Dinky probably shakes off this season’s slump and of course 88 and 19.
Depending on what they do with Saad and Strome, that’s not bad, plus you have to figure one or two Ice Hogs graduate where you could have a 4th line of Highmore, Carpenter and Kampf.
Sorry, too much Kool...er I mean coffee this am.
But yeah no more really old guy placeholders please. |

I think I might too. Have only watched highlights so haven’t seen either playing an actual game.
From his scouting reports though, it kind of reads a bit like...sigh...Danault. |

It's early in the day but I'm not feeling confident that Stan will make the most out of today's trade deadline and move out a few players to build this teams bench and depth for next year and the future.
Imo bringing Crawford back at 35 plus years old with a history of concussions and a weak defensive cast is fool's gold.
It would be one thing if Chicago had their next young net minder set to take over and Crawford was a backup simply to mentor and bring stability but as a starter please . If Colorado still is interested in Crawford I say make that deal |

Morning
Expectations for the day?
Mine
Gus 100% goes
Lehner if not extended has to go. Keeping him and flipping him prior to 7/1 will only further lower the return
Could go
Saad....somebody is going to panic and miss on kreider. They may be stupid/panicked enough to offer enough to get saad from bowman.
Strome....id love to see piano mover/concrete shoes moved. Don’t think anyone will pay the high price |

@Sportsnet “Brandon Saad is in play.”

I can only see Saad going if there is a younger, dynamic player included in a package that the Hawks can plug into the lineup now or at least next year. Maybe this player isn't in the NHL right now but on the cusp of being an NHLer.
Guys like Lias Andersson and Puljujarvi come to mind. <- no I'm not suggesting those trades but guys like that. |

What is strange at this point is he held gus out for 2 games and no deal announced yet. Why? Normally a player held out is moved quickly. The deal was done and announced.
1. Are buyers balking at Stan's price?
2. Is Stan going for a package deal or multiplayer multiteam deal.
3. Was there a deal and one side pulled out?
And still no rumors bout the hawks by Ecklund.
This all suggests nothing is close. - bogiedoc
Wait...not close because Eklund doesnt report it?
The guy who has the Hawks getting Malkin and trading Toews and Keith to LA for Doughty?

The fact that they won’t meet lehner term per multiple reports tells me it’s not expected to truly contend anytime soon.
Crawford on 1-2 year deal can be a band aid until then. Also gives them time to evaluate the lakinen(spell) or Delia kids to see if they could be a long term solution.
Don’t trade picks. Don’t lock up anyone for a considerable amount of time moving forward until the window starts to open again. They need as much cap flexibility as soon as possible to navigate. |

Somebody may meet the high price. GMs get fiscally stupid this time of year and then again on 7/1
Eapeicallly since he has another year left. Huge return. Would LOVE to see it happen. Only helps for the long term.

This actually suggests something is very close. I actually think it’s none of the above. I think teams want to know if they’re buying a rental or a player they can immediately resign. |

Agree. For Saad I think a 1st round pick which will probably be later in the round and a near NHL ready iffy middle six prospect. Something similar to a Nylander. |
|
|
|
Depends on Lehner’s asking price and term. If it’s loaded and long, have to pass.
As far a 3rd vs Kovalchuk? The third round pick is more valuable to the Hawks. No trading away of picks. - HawkintheD
That 3rd is from the Caps so it'll probably fall into the 80ish range. The chances of drafting a top 6 forward or top 4 d-man at that spot are minuscule.
The Habs will probably use it to take a flier on a different Russian. |

There were 23 trades at the trade deadline last year, you would think Stan will have at least one. |

Ive been team Bowman for a while. Yea, dude has (frank)ed up. But he also got DeBrincat for Shaw, Leddy for Barker, ect.
This specific deadline today the Hawks should be able to add to their future in a positive way. If they dont Bowman has to get let go ! Lol |
