What is strange at this point is he held gus out for 2 games and no deal announced yet. Why? Normally a player held out is moved quickly. The deal was done and announced.
1. Are buyers balking at Stan's price?
2. Is Stan going for a package deal or multiplayer multiteam deal.
3. Was there a deal and one side pulled out?
And still no rumors bout the hawks by Ecklund.
This all suggests nothing is close. - bogiedoc
I think it's #1.
Stanley is trying to make up for the Daly, Kimmo and Danault trades all at once and asking for the moon.
He just may end up pricing himself out of the market. |

I am not even against trading Gus.
Lehner is their most "valuable" trade chip, but the question is (much like with Gus) is does anyone want him. |

Could see the Hawks doing this again. After the Cam Ward experiment, though, you'd think they'd wake up screaming at the thought. I see another 50-50 goalie split, which means they'd need a good backup who isn't an untested kid. - gabriel
So let's say they choose to re-up Crow and promote Lankinen or Delia and it turns into a disaster. Crow gets hurt and/or Lankinen and Delia are awful. So we are next years's Detroit Red Wings and have the best chance at the lottery. It is not like anyone is picking the Hawks to win the Cup next year and that is what this is all about. |

Somebody will take Gus for a 3rd or 4th round pick. |

Trading Lehner would be astronomically stupid...... If Hawks fans want to see the playoffs anytime soon then extending Lehner would be the smartest move Bowman could do.... Keep him...
If you can get a 2nd for Crow then deal him.... Gus is probably worth more - perhaps a first round pick, decent prospect and a future conditional pick...
I could see the Hawks move a couple of pieces but nothing major - I see Bowman standing pat..
Yea, I know there are Hawks fans out there that want to see the entire team traded... Perhaps we can trade JC instead???
I wish Bowman made a move for Kovalchuk tho - and he went for exactly what I thought - a 3rd round pick......
As it stands, the Hawks have 13M in cap space - what Bowman should do if he thinks the Hawks are out is to take on terrible EXPIRING contracts for assets from contenders so they can free up some cap space to make moves... I think the Hawks could add a couple of First Round picks if they took on a couple of bad expiring contracts - but it would be a smart move to approach this trade deadline with that mentality. |

Signing Lehner would be just as stupid if the price was too high and/or the term was too long.

It will be interesting to see if there is an opportunity to be a 3rd party in a deal or two where we take on a rental from a contender so that they can acquire an important piece from someone else. That may be a best case scenario, because there are plenty of other teams with cap space. Things would have to fall just right. |

Everyone does realize that you CAN trade Lehner for a potentially nice return and THEN resign him 7/1 . Right ? |

Agreed. Has zero place in the lineup next year. |

On the subject of re-sign,, what do you predict Y/N:
Blackhawks:
Lehner
Crawford
Saad (trade)
Coyotes:
T Hall
NYR:
Kreider |

Theoretically possible. But if he leaves via trade it is because his price/terms demand are too great. My guess is that if he leaves via trade he will not come back this summer and sign. The only scenario I would see him returning later is if no one wanted to meet his demands and he came crawling back to us on the price/terms the Hawks offered him before he was traded. |

If Lehner is playing hard ball in his negotiations regarding term or salary, I wonder if he is doing this on purpose to force a trade. Maybe he wants to play for a contender, make the playoffs, advance a round or two and show off his skills in order to get a bigger pay day this summer. He can't do that by being out of the limelight, playing only 10 or so games with a non playoff team. |

What are the odds Bowman does not make any moves today. I hope it won’t be a “crickets day”

This thread is oft-bipolar. I don’t post too often, but some of you are straight up impatient, or simply lack experience negotiating.
1. Gus will be traded, Stan has a few offers and is waiting to create the highest FOMO(fear of missing out).
2. If Lehner isn’t traded he will be resigned. A pee-wee manager would realize that not doing either costs him his job.
3. I’m not sold anyone else moves. I think Colorado could be a sleeper for Saad though. I’d ask for either Byram or Newhook in return or he stays.

Depends on Lehner’s asking price and term. If it’s loaded and long, have to pass.
As far a 3rd vs Kovalchuk? The third round pick is more valuable to the Hawks. No trading away of picks.

Saad fetches a good return if he is moved. His style is perfect in a complimentary role, designed for a playoff run(strong two way game). And he has two years!

Why the hell should Stan have gone after kolvachuk? The last thing the Hawks need is an aging Russian mercenary who left a previous team hanging.
