What is the point of Simmonds going to BUF? They are about in the same situation as the Hawks...

He prematurely reported that the Hawks acquired the rights to Ilya Sorokin on Friday. Another Russian KHL reporter initially reported the same but later on the reports were refuted.

Sorokin is widely regarded as the best goalie not in the NHL. He has put up remarkable numbers in the KHL for a couple years in a row now. Would be a big-time addition.

- TommyHawk

Sorokin, of course, is the 24-year-old goalie they drafted in the third round (78th) in the 2014 NHL Draft. He has long been a top goalie prospect who had thus far elected to stay in the KHL, where he was a star goalie on a championship team, rather than come to the NHL while his ELC-regulated earning potential was limited.

But he’s widely expected to depart for North America this year — more on that below — now that he’s at the age where he requires just a one-year entry level contract before he can start getting meaningful raises.

Speaking of which, this all came more than an hour after some KHL scuttlebutt suggesting this trade might be happening, which was followed by Igor Eronko saying his understanding was the contrary — that the Islanders and Sorokin had begun contract discussions, and there’s a “99% chance” he’s in the NHL next year.

Igor Eronko

@IgorEronko
Per @SFedotoF Ilya Sorokin's rights are gonna be traded to the Blackhawks soon. I'm hearing the opposite. Lou met Sorokin's agent. There're some requirements from Ilya's side, A and B bonuses and Euro clause. 99% chance Sorokin coming to the NHL next year #Isles #Blackhawks https://twitter.com/SFedo...tatus/1230931035715723267

Of course, the possibilities aren’t mutually exclusive: If the Islanders know what Sorokin wants in a contract, they could arrange terms before using him as a trade piece, presumably with his and the acquiring team’s understanding. A sign-and-trade, if you will. And maybe even such a thing has been discussed, but the Hawks know well not to Cross Lou by acknowledging any of it.

It has long been thought that Sorokin would make an ideal tandem-mate to Semyon Varlamov, a friend of his whom the Islanders signed to a surprise four-year, $20-million deal last summer instead of bringing back Robin Lehner — who, ironically, signed with Chicago on a one-year deal.

The Islanders do need to upgrade their offense, and Sorokin is one of the few prospect assets that both had value and is somewhat expendable. So a trade at this point isn’t necessarily crazy, given other needs.

It’s just not happening now, apparently. And perhaps not ever.

I am scratching my head why the Avs would want
Hucthinson

I guess Lehner isn't going there..

Kreider resigns with Rangers.

You know it is possible Lehner is pricing himself out ofChicago and many destinations by his reps asking too much for the next deal...

- wiz1901

This.
Teams maybe ask to talk contract with his agent. They all walk away after hearing Lehner's demands. This might work out in the Hawk's favor in the long run. Maybe Lehner comes back to reality if no one will meet his demands in the summer. So maybe they keep Lehner hoping to sign him long term in the summer and keep Crow just in case they cannot sign Lehner in the summer.

If Pageau is worth this, could you imagine what Saad could bring back if we were to trade him?
- hpk90

Yeah, and then spend the next 5 years looking for someone who does what Saad does.

It's not official but close as it's being reported as close.

This maybe unfair...but i don't see any team giving 6 or more years with his medical history...he is going to to have to settle for 4-5 with less money and incentives..

If Stan does nothing, it might almost be worth it, just to see this board melt down.

Ottawa 5 first rounders
EIGHT second rounders and
Four 3rds
in next THREE Drafts...

Ottawa rebuild :

all first rounders will play in the NHL 4 years from their draft year...4 years later if they have success, will ask for $$$ and then the Senators owner will send them packing...

This reminds of baseball free agents that hold out for big bucks in free agency and then in the end just before spring training starts they sign for far less money and much shorter term than their initial ask.

Imo everyone would be right to explode if Stan fails or stands pat.
The season was a utter disaster and he has some solid pieces that he can move and recoup something instead of gaining nothing at seasons end.

Gus hasn't even been moved yet and all signs pointed to him getting traded.

If you want to watch AHL level hockey for the next 5 years. And then at the end of 5 years the owner will piss off coaches, players and agents, refuse to spend to get near the cap and the team will be mediocre.

If moves aren't made, I think it speaks volumes about Bowman's tenure with the Hawks moving forward...which then makes me wonder...what are they waiting for to fire him?

Interesting in theory, but does Parise have much left in the tank? I don't watch enough Wild games to know any better, but you rarely hear much about him anymore.

Hearing #isles are working on a deal that would reunite Zach Parise and GM Lou Lamoriello. Not done yet.

The ghost of Kelly Kisio lives on!

Who knows maybe the Hawks win the cup with him...lol

- Blackwater13

Man you're showing your age.....

What year was that? perhaps 1991?

What's the deal with the Hawks and tardy paperwork? they had the deal for Kisio, then you had the whole 2010 fiasco with Buff, Versteeg & Ladd.....

Of course they had a deal in place with Roenick for Hull but that was scrapped. And another one for Lindros which included Larmer, Smith and Belfour...

But I don't believe the latter deals were deadline deals tho.

I'm simply looking at how Ottowa GM in comparison to Stan handled today's deadline and his achievements in the amount of picks .

How the team plays for the next 5 years is expected.

I wouldn't boast about Chicago's play here we are 3rd year in a row missing the playoffs and still years away from any resemblance of a young talented team competing.

The toews , Kane Keith show is over .
