Paying a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for a guy riding a career-high in goals who is a UFA in a few months is a pretty bad deal, especially for a team not considered a top contender.

If they resign him, they'll likely do so by overpaying based on his career-high season. Someone will do so, and I hope it's not the Flyers.

But if they wanted to sign him, they could have done it in 4 1/2 months without giving up all of those picks. All his rights at the time would but them is an 8th year, and giving him an 8-year deal would be foolish.
