I don't remember anyone being super happy when he was signed. Almost didn't play the previous playoffs since he had trouble keeping up with the pace.

I figured he'd be overpaid, but I think most people still expected him to be at least as effective as Emelin was before him.

He couldn't even reach that level... and didn't have the physical play to compensate.

This being said, I saw him in Laval and he's a pretty steady presence for them on the blueline, I'm sure he's helping the kids alot.

I wouldn't go that far. Bergevin wanted to replace Markov and (frank)ed up royally...Alzner and his agent wanted the most money...Alzner's play was never close to his cheque...lot of blame to go around but MB didn't screw him
