right now the leafs need a bridge to rielly's return and gardiner already knows the team, when rielly returns gards goes 3rd pairing and plays 2nd pp unit. 4 mil is about the going rate for 2nd 3rd pairing d-men. if the leafs can get his numbers looking decent again i don't see a problem trading him when the right time comes to do it. would definitely limit his pk usage as well as in only plays pk when regular pk d's are taking the penalties.

i don't understand what dubas has been doing with this defense, he has needed to add defensemen for such a long time and has done nothing but peel them off to other teams without even giving them a try on the main roster, harpur, borgman, rosen, gordeev (unsigned prospect).

sand in and liljegren are not ready likely not good enough to have a major impact on a cup contending team right now.
