Honestly the worst part of the leafs not doing well is uggie digging out his armchair GM cape, throwing it on in his mamas basement, and proceeding to poop days of his endless obsessive oppositional defiance bullpoop all over the place.
(frank)ing guy is such a taint. - joel878
Oppositional defiance disorder is sad.

Matthews scores without Marner too. All four of the players in these examples are very good. - Zezel
But scores more with Marner. Just like Tavares scores more with Marner.
They are all very good but McDavid is clearly the best, Draisaitl has 50 goals, 100 points under his belt and soon to be an Art Ross. Matthews might get 50 goals, he might even get the Richard, but he's not a 100-120 point player yet. So for now, he's behind. |

they were not considered elite prospects at the time. that is why teams didn't draft them in the top 15 picks. they were project picks that turned out to be more than was expected by many teams. - ghetto puck
I guess I don't see your point then. Does your prospect status end immediately after you are drafted? |

you have 2 elite C and one burgeoning one in nylander whose natural position is at centre, tavares can be just as good if not better on the left wing and he can play with matthews. it might be what is best for this roster. - ghetto puck
JT is a Top 10 C in the NHL and you want him to move to the wing because Nylander's "natural position" is at C?

According to Mac and Dregs (for what that's worth), the Leafs have come to feel more maturing is required and won't be adding at the deadline and may be selling Barrie. So some of you guys should be happy. Just kidding, I know you guys can't be happy. |

That still tells me they would make a trade though, just not for a UFA. |

That's what a generational player means so you just proved yourself wrong.
Ah yes, the 5v5 goal stat. The stat that didn't even exist among Leafs fans until certain Leafs fans needed a way to carve out something to justify Matthews contract. How about 120 points and an Art Ross?
Yeah, blame Babcock, meanwhile Draisaitl has had how many coaches? Feels like a new one every year. - JohnFergusonJr
Nope. McDavid is a talent that transcends the "generational" label. Very few players in the history of the NHL are at his level. He's in the Gretzky, Lemieux, and Orr strata. You can literally count this type of player on one hand.
Matthews is in the tier below that. Generational.
Your "point" about 5v5 is irrelevant. It's a fact that can't be overlooked.
Matthews has better stats than Draisaitl did in his first 4 years. Matthews > Draisaitl. And Matthews isn't playing either with -or- behind a transcendent talent like McJesus. |

I hope Kapanen is not traded. Kappy has finally embraced the grit role and can potentially be another forecheck demon like Hyman. Very effective and needed since our soft core won't do any dirty work.
Trade a signed Barrie and a prospect for D help. |

UG is so invested in Draisaitl being better than Matthews for some reason. |

He’s also a centre and just for that gets the nod over Draisaitl. If you check out the top players in the league and look at their stats across the board Matthews might be better than anybody. Just not as exciting as McDavid and MacKinnon. |

roeper called sandin an elite d prospect which he is not, then you went on to name a bunch of guys who are or were at one point elite nhl defensemen that were drafted in later rounds of drafts and some of them were even before the 'new nhl' happened. when they were drafted they were not considered elite d prospects other wise they would have gone in the top 15 or 20, more so the top 5 or 10 like guys like ekblad who were considered elite blue chip d prospects like jay bouwmeester was considered at the time, like victor hedman, seth jones, darnell nurse, all these guys were drafted high because they were considered elite blue chip prospects. sandin is not in that category and was even labeled a project prospect when he was drafted by the hockey talking heads who cover the drafts. |

Cam Barker at 3 says hello.
So does Yakupov at 1.... plenty of fails in top 5. |
