Jost is a RFA, young and does have some upside - Buff36
By end of season he will be 22 and have played 200 NHL games, consistently producing 20- 25 pts per 65-70 games.
I guess he could replace ERod. |

Not really, because we are talking about 22 year olds that just played 4 years of college hockey. At that point you're just about who you are going to be. Chad Ruhwedel doesn't seem to be hurting too much. - Slump Buster
The Sabres have a history of poor development...that's why it's a fair point. |

Ruhwedal is a great story.
The odds of the kids, that an organization like Buffalo can entice to come here, making any significant impact are very slim to none. |

Yes, and for Girgs I would take him, he has higher upside for offense and younger. |

But that's the point - you're not really developing a college FA like you would an 18 year old. You can put them in the right spots but they pretty much are who they are at that point. |

Vesey won the Hobey Baker. He WAS a great player.
He certainly isn't lighting it up in pros, by a mile. |

Kapanen from the leafs would be a good get. Great skater, starting to show some grit, position of need. |

They don't really have a great record of integrating college players into the nhl game either |

Should have been Kyle Connor that year, however the top 10 finalists list wasn't that impressive. |

But that's not my point. At that point your development is largely done and you are who you are. Vesey was a great college player whose skills didn't directly translate to the pros. It isn't like someone botched his development. |

There is a difference though between a 4 year college player coming to the NHL and someone coming after their freshman/ sophomore season. |

there are projections for every player, that's where your scouting department comes in...if those scouts are good, they'll rate them within a projected range and said player will fill a role that's intended for them...what the organization does with that player is another area all together...the good organizations invariably get players to a level at the high-end of projections and the best ones have them succeed even further...buffalo has been neither lately |

no...they drafted him and he ended up signing with boston after being in the sabres system and playing for them...had a couple good years there, even produced rather well for a defensive forward...he's got good speed and good character and a lot of drive to his game...would be a good bottom-line/reserve forward |

I usually do keep my expectations to a minimum but he has done squat all year, media, fans have been clamoring for a top 6 forward and JB has said that has been his goal since last summer. He caved and tossed fans a bone when the heat got on him by trading for Frolik. I really can't think of any reason he traded for that guy and adding another scrub at 4+ million. His penalty killing? Top six prowess? I may be disappointed and wrong and the move won't be a blcokbuster but might be a a top 6 improvement. |
