Botts needs to do better .....
Does anyone think botts was waiting for this weekend to end to see if he should add or sell?
Like if the Sabres win...... we get closer to the leafs and panthers with games in hand.
We lose and throw in the towel deadline wise - Sabretooth9
I’m starting to think that Botts’ biggest obstacle is his own track record. They say it can take years to figure out who won a trade, but several of his look like losses quickly.
Other GMs are hoping to be the next one to fleece him. Keep rejecting the reasonable deals and wait for Botts to make a desperate one

Mike, I like your ideas in your blog and the idea of the Sabres acquiring a prospect or pick tomorrow is a solid idea. I like your idea of Jack Studnicka from Boston and Alex Beaucage from Colorado. I would love Jason Robertson from Dallas but that would be a tough get.
I was thinking of potential AHL players with upside that we could trade for and thought of a few guys. Brayden Burke LW (Arizona), has 21 goals and 29 assists in 50 games for Tucson. He's an undrafted winger, 5'10" 160 and is on his ELC with one year remaining.
Nikolay Goldobin is 24, a LW who is in the Vancouver organization playing for Utica. He has 48 points in 47 games and also has some NHL experience. He'll be an RFA. He would be one of my go to gets.
Jake Bean is stuck in Charlotte. He's a LD and with the plethora of dmen the Canes have, maybe he could be available.
Finally, I would look to Tampa Bay (Syracuse) for help. They have three forwards I love. Alexander Volkov is a 22 year old LW who will be an RFA. Injuries have slowed him a bit this year but the last 2 years in Syracuse he has put up 48 and 45 points. Another guy is Alex Barre-Boulet. Although small at 5'9" he 's a dynamic center who just scores. 68 points in Syracuse last year and has 52 in 54 games this year. Taylor Raddysh is another player to look at. 6'2" 198 RW who has been a good pro in the AHL and was spectacular in Erie. Syracuse is not having as good of a season as in years past so maybe it's time to do a deal with TB.
If I would rank my choices I would have Studnicka, Goldobin and Volkov as my top 3.

Several?
Granted the O'reilly deal is enough to count as several by itself, but what are the others?

The Scandella deal? Agreed there.
What else? - kingcong39
I had to look. I guess it just feels worse than it is. I lump in the Frolik deal, which wasn’t terrible. Didn’t give much up. But I hated it when it happened and he’s done nothing to change my mind. Mailing it in

Gotta ice an NHL roster.
If these UFA'a to be aren't signing an extension before Monday, then he's got to get something for them and get bodies in here to play, especially if they're "hanging around" 6-8 points out.
You'll have him going forward as a tweener 3rd/4th liner.

I've got a feeling that between now and TDL tomorrow, a whole lot of nothing is going to happen with respect to trades. I think Botts is frozen because: 1) he still has a faint hope the Sabres could go on a run and catch the imploding Leafs/Panthers and 2) he got taken to the shed over the ROR trade and to a lesser extent the Scandella return.
The Sabres aren't going to make the playoffs. The smart thing to do is trade off all his UFA's that aren't part of the future (which should be all of them) and get some picks for them. Maybe he can leverage some of those picks into real NHL players at the draft. Getting nothing for pending UFA's when your team isn't going to the playoffs is pure negligence IMO.
Sabres beat Winnipeg 3 - 2 today in O/T - just to add confusion to the matter.

I don't think Botts is Frozen, I think he is trying to trade for a 2C or top 6 winger and unload our UFAs. The problem is no one wants our trash so aside from our 1st round pick there is not much ammunition.
What makes me SMH is drafting Samuelsson and Johnson when we need offense and guys like Brink, Lavoie and Kaliyev are on the board.

Still would call Carolina, they have a lot of good C prospects. - Buff36
They sure do. Jamieson Reese, Blake Murray, Luke Henman, David Cotton, Ryan Suzuki, Eetu Luotsarainen and Stellio Mattheos could be players to consider. Although I doubt they would move Suzuki and possibly Luotsarainen.
