The Ballard years were a black hole of inept ownership and incompetent management. This seems like a continuation of a black hole of player entitlement being passed on from the Muskoka 5, to Dion and Phil, to the current self-absorbed overmonied core. Along with of course, the 'dubious' management. It's worse because this team doesn't think their shiit stinks while the Ballard teams at least knew they sucked. I felt bad for the players back then. I feel disgust towards many of our current players too often. |

I don’t see any other option for Shanahan. He can’t let Dubas continue to destroy the roster/cap/draft, never mind fix it.
Dubas clearly couldn’t fix himself a sandwich. |

Quick reminder that Timashov isn't good and referring to him as an "asset" is silly. There are literally hundreds of players like him. - Leafs43
Harsh...but fair.
Its okay though... we got Salomaki!
came out on top... traded "never to be NHLer" Marchment because he was too tall...
to acquire Salomaki... who isn't as tall.... but apparently plays "heavy".
its because of Salomaki's heaviness that Timashov is expendable.
I hope there's an increased focus on the Marlies roster today... 'cause there's really not much to be done with the Leafs |

So basically last night the Leafs were embarrassed, then Tampa tried to top it, was close but no cigars. Boston got wind of it and said " Hold my beer"..... |

This is not insignificant. Dubas is one of the poster boys for analytics that stress puck possession. If Dubas goes down, the credibility of analytics will take a huge hit. Traditionalists will pile on blaming analytics as the Achilles heel of Leaf decision making.

I kind of agree... but I'm trending toward indifference - rather than disgust.
Those of us who remember knew by 77-78 that Ballard was out of his mind, he really was Donald Trump before Trump. But we liked the players for the most part - who for the most part played hard - even when they knew Ballard was going to do the "next stupid thing"...
What I feel is different now is the entitlement of the players - at least some of them - and arrogance of the Junior Juice.
I thought and still believe that it was the right move to can Babcock. But the messages that the management is sending to the players about "their accountability" are a joke.
Whomever made the decision for the players to have today off... the media should be asking that question. They won't ... but they should.
Keefe's comments about the lack of maturity... it isn't just the roster that seems to be suffering from that.
At this point, Dubas should be praying that the CAP goes up by 5-8 million this summer... otherwise we're looking at the same underwhelming pile of crap again next year.

the leafs should just focus on moving their ufas, trade spezza, barrie and possibly even muzzin and clifford if you can't get good contracts out of them. move ceci if you can. also look into deals that could get you upgrades on players like dermott, gauthier, kerfoot, and holl if there is deal there that can significantly improve the team defensively make it. if the decision is that 1 of the big 4 forwards need to go only make the deal if the right deal is there otherwise that is a deal that should wait until the offseason. |
