I think Boston and Tampa are currently the favorites.

I guess then everyone else is a bubble team.

I think I have to agree. I like Kapanen but I think people are definitely overvaluing him.
- hereticpride

Not even that but in my opinion they need to look at the big picture. I agree with Fletcher when he said a while back, Farabee has 4 goals now but I bet he doesn't have 4 goals this time next year. Frost is coming. Will Patrick or Lindblom play again? Who knows.

Now if Toronto is looking for defense, which defenseman do you think they'd ask in return for Kapanen? Why would they take Gostisbehere who is rehabbing an injury and isn't currently with the team? If they would, what else would the Flyers need to add. I don't believe the Flyers would give up Myers or Sanhiem which is who I believe Toronto would ask for. I don't see a fit.

In the case of SSB its a bit of a two way street.

I can look at the posts he made towards me today and getting told I dont know what I'm talking about, only his view is correct and everything else isn't always the easiest to deal with in a cordial manner.

No doubt...
Im sure Columbus would love to talk to the Pens about the impact of injuries.

Flyers have caught a real break with the injury luck that Columbus has had.

I don't think you're considering games played. A couple of teams below them have played a couple less games than the Flyers have. They win those and the difference is a point or two. There are 20 games left. A small losing streak could have them out. The Flyers have by no means locked up a playoff spot. That is the definition of a bubble team.
- MJL

Im considering what I know and that is to this point the FLyers have the record that indicates to me they arent a bubble team.

Yes their are teams below them that haven't played as many games but that delta could be losses as well as they could be wins.

What I am saying is that right now after 62 games played the Flyers have performed to a level that does not make them a bubble team IMO.

With how tight it is there are a lot of bubble teams or a lot of playoff teams.

Who are the contenders? A handful?

- wcorvette

It’s all about context. They’d be tied for second best record in the West. The Metro is by far the best division currently.

That doesn't makes sense. Their record indicates that they're a bubble team. Their record is how they've performed and based on the records of the teams that they're in competition with, they're a bubble playoff team. That status could change in a few weeks or so if the current trend continues but they aren't at that point yet.

Simple questions. Do the Flyers realistically have a playoff spot locked up? Is it possible they miss the playoffs?

Using your logic then any team not named the Bruins , Tampa or Detroit could make or miss the playoffs so everyone is a bubble team.

You see it your way, I'll see it mine.

What I know is this Flyers team is enjoyable to watch and I hope they don't make any dumb trades MOnday. Dance with the group that has gotten them to this point.

All the other teams around them at the bubble are also playing like legit playoff teams.
- MJL

Just curious, only one team in the Western Conference has more points than the Flyers right now. I think it is quite unfortunate that the division they are in is making the seem like a bubble team where they would be sitting in a very comfortable playoff position in any other division right now.
That would really be the only reason to call them a bubble team currently. What more can they do really, they have one of the best records in the league in 2020(we can throw the run Tampa is on out the window for averages).

Yes, any team who isn't currently solidly in a playoff spot where you can say it's a pretty sure bet they're going to make the playoffs, is a bubble team.

I think Bill said it best in his blog on 2/21.

"1) The Flyers showed a lot of resiliency in coming back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits on Thursday to earn a 4-3 overtime win in the road half of their home-and-home set with the Columbus Blue Jackets. There still isn't much breathing room in the battle for third place in the Metro Division and the two wildcard spots. However, by taking care of business in the home-and-home sweep of Columbus, the Flyers have at least temporarily put themselves in a position where a single tough night or a rival winning when Philly is idle will not cause them to drop right back under the playoff cutoff line. In the bigger picture, there's still a lot of work to do."

Sounds like a bubble team to me.

To sum it up you think the Pens, Washington , Colorado , Blues, Flyers are bubble teams while I don't.

Let's pick it back up at the end of the season when all the data is available.

Only in a mickey mouse league like the NHL can the 7th overall team be considered a bubble team

Even if you go back to the old format where the top 8 in the conference make the playoffs. The Flyers are still battling Metro teams. Changes by maybe one spot.

There was nothing wrong with old format of 1 through 8. This wildcard nonsense is the NHL trying to imitate baseball and the NFL. I wish the league would stop trying artificially create excitement where it doesn’t need it.

The conferences are lopsided this year. Odd year in that sense. Nothing to do with the format unless you’d like to throw all the teams in one pot
