I realize JC is an outstanding young coach, and I know nothing about hockey.

That said, he can’t continue to play Carpenter as the center between Kane & Saad. He’s an offensive black hole, but is a good 4th line center, and PKer.

On the other hand, Dach was outstanding with Kane & Saad for the 4 periods they played together.

Nylander is a waste on the 4th line. He does not have the skill set to play that role. The times he’s had success he’s been playing with other skilled forwards.

The 4 centers are Toews, Dach, Strome & Carpenter. In that order. Build the line up around them.

Nylander . Toews. Kubalik
Saad . Dach . Kane
DCat. Strome. Caggiula
Highmore. Carpenter . Kampf

One critical mission for a HC is to put his players in positions where they can succeed. JC continues to play guys in roles to which they are not suited.

I am hopeful for Stan to do something great. But the expectations on this site are unrealistic. My guess is he will get a 2nd for Lehner that could be conditional to be a first if they make the conference finals. They get a 4th for Gus. I am ok with that.

Maybe there is one more trade none of see coming.

And, BTW, JC is doing the exact same thing to Boqvist that he did to Jokiharju.

Take him off the pairing with Keith.
Reduce his minutes.
Move him to 3rd pair.
Don’t play him in the 3rd period.

The season is lost. Boqvist needs the remaining 20 games to get as many reps as possible, to put him in the best position to take the next step next year.

My point about the market going forward was related to the goalie market being set when backup Campbell went to Toronto, but that is really a poor choice, because Jack Campbell (as well as that trade that included other pieces) is not really a good comp for crow or RL.

I'd be shocked if Stan doesn't have something in the works for Gus. I think mothballing Gus was a move to signal to teams that "he's hot property". Saad has been in the rumor mill, but he hasn't been mothballed. I think there is something with Gus. I don't believe Saad will be moved and I am fine with that.

Carolina wants him, but they don't like Stan's asking price. They also want Lehner and Maata, but again, they don't like Stan's asking price. There is plenty of time to work things out, and it is 99% certain that at LEAST, Gus and Lehner are gone, and we should not be surprised if more trades are in the works. I sure hope so, this squad is not very good anymore. Sign some free agents ?? Huh ?? We are gonna have a helluva time just signing ONE, and that is our own RFA, Kubalik. Guys have to go, a bunch of them. I am realizing that ANYONE with a cap hit of more than 2 million can and might be moved. It is time, right now, to start making big changes. And when the season ends, Colliton must go.
