I'm not expecting anything to go down until tomorrow or at the earliest later tonight.
- BGKarras

Agreed. Canes don't play until after the deadline, neither does their AHL team.

Hawks and IceHogs play this afternoon so I wouldn't be shocked to see something later tonight.

or babe ruth for striking out so much...

pathetic..

- bogiedoc

Tom Brady does not need rushing yards and he don't have to play any defense. In hockey ALL players are TWO-WAY. Or SUPPOSED to be. Players who don't give a hoot about getting back to help should go out the door. And THAT attitude is the thing that is pathetic. Especially for a player making 10 million +.

Very true gramps but I would be happy if Stan can package him in a trade.
- BGKarras

So would I but like BINGO the sheep shagger mentioned earlier, Smith may lessen the return value.

I was scratching my head when I heard about this deal Smith does absolutely nothing for this team. I would rather have AA
- BGKarras

cap savings of about 1 million
arte was not exactly fleet of skate

expected strome to assume the 2nd center role
slot kampf and smith as 3, 4 center...
smith as a pk guy..he has been good in that role
shaw to help forward up and down the lines

none of this happened and shaw got hurt...

it was not a bad deal given the goals and context..

arte also provided net presence and thats about it; it was expected shaw would replace that...with those two both gone well the hawks have no one who knows how or is willing to provide screens and good at tips...

If you are talking about Kane early on in his career your point would be valid. However, as he has matured as a player he is no longer a defensive liability and has become responsible in his own end and does help out a lot. He will always be an offense-first type player and that is why they pay him 10+ million.

he does backcheck, he is no hossa but thats not his game...his game is to be available for the outlet and transition off the rush as one of the most dynamic offensive players ever in this league...

how do you know he doesn't care?? so you want to show the door to #88...

i suggest you have an examination to see if you are firing on all synapses..

Smith's buyout is pretty painless I guess. Buying him out would save ~2M in cap space after this season.
- Elbows15

i doubt he and shaw are here next year...

shaw i suspect may retire or stay on LTIR..most likely LTIR cuz he ain't going to walk away from 4mil..

Crawford in net today.

And with that, the Robin Lehner era in Chicago officially comes to an end.

- TommyHawk

craw played great the other night...not surprising he is in net...

but i would say its now 70-30 lehner has played his last game as a hawk...

but stan is not going to give him away...some team is gonna have to pay up or he stays and they continue to try reach a contract agreement...

I think your correct . The last bit of info I read regarding Lehner was Chicago doesn't want to move Lehner and is still working to resign him.

I'm torn between spending that kind of money on a goalie looking at Chicago's future they are in a rebuild for the foreseeable future.

I'd like to see them move Crawford and Lehner and grab as many picks and prospects.

Between Lehner, Gus and Saad the Hawks have some valuable assets that can be traded for a significant return to accelerate the rebuild.

I remember my dad getting a blowtorch out and curving my Hespelers, Victoriavilles and Louisville’s under the door. I also used electrical tape after my dad freaked when I used hockey tape to hold my shin pads on.

Sherwood, sakic curve in later years, first helmet was the makita.

A perfect day?

Move Guatafsson, Maatta and Smith

Miraculously come to a deal last minute for Lehner to sign him long-term. Then flip Crawford.

In return, I don't want all draft picks but a 1st and/or 2nd would be great. I would like the Hawks to get some NHL-ready prospects.

I don't anticipate this all to happen, but you asked for a perfect day. Ha.

Did I just read someone say "Kane does not care"?

I thought Stan had a pretty good off-season/draft last year. He got Dach (a couple other exciting prospects), acquired much needed defense (Maata was meh, but DeHaan looked like a real win before the injury), and found a bit of a diamond with Kubilik.

So I am willing to see what he does and won't project or analyze what he is doing at this TDL until the TDL is actually over.

It sure looks like Gus is moving, which is fine, but I really would be very disappointed if he didn't move a goalie. Right now we don't know if he will move one, so until then I'll wait before bringing out the pitchforks for Bowman.

He has not. He is still pathetic in his own end. He tries to steal the puck a lot in the offensive zone but that's it. He does make a nice backcheck every once in a while.

As you should every kid should have their dreams supported.

My point is hockey is pricing itself out of a vast majority of potential players. Not getting the best possible athletes at an earlier age because their parents can’t afford it.

Niche sport.

- SteveRain

Oh, I totally agree. To make it to college in the U.S., the usual path to the NHL for American players unless they play in Canada, you have to play junior hockey. To make it to juniors, you have to play Tier 1 AAA hockey usually, which in the Chicago area can cost $15k-$20k a season. That is where the scouts are. That prices most but the wealthy out. It’s a shame. I am glad we can afford his travel hockey at tier 2, but we won’t ever be able to afford AAA hockey in Illinois even if he was good enough.
