He has grit. It is important to lay a hit on a guy while the puck is 50 feet up ice.

They just have buy his useless ass out after the season. No trade is going to clear the amount of cap space as can be accomplished by buying him out.

Regarding players like Marner and Kane. I have not watched enough of Loafs games to know Marner's effectiveness at both ends of the ice, but from what I have seen and read, its not the most encouraging. But I have watched 100's of games with Kane. When the Hawks had all those great teams and excellent skaters with speed, Kane and his negative play on the defensive side, did not hurt the team as much as it does today and the last few years, as the team has sputtered. Many many times, he could care less of providing ANY type of backcheck or disruptive play when it is needed as the play goes the other way. Wonder how the Hawks give up so many point blank shots ? How many come when Kane is on the ice and on HIS side ? QUITE a lot. So, while we can look at the stat sheet and see numbers for Marner and Kane, the numbers don't tell the whole story. Yeah these guys are paid to score goals, but the teams need more than that from their bigshot 'scorers' to be good. Except in very exceptional cases, such as the Hawks from 2009-2016. WOW, those teams were SO good. We were really lucky to watch that.

Whining about Kane not being good enough defensively is like complaining about Ton Brady because he doesnt have enough rushing yards

Last season Marner was on a trajectory to have a similar career as Kane, he still is. While Marner does not possess Kane’s stickhandling ability or shot they are both still above average. Marner is more a playmaker than a scorer who sees the ice and makes passes extremely well and is on par with Kane in those regards. In his first three years Marner had the same numbers as Kane. Add in marner’s above average defensive play and I saw him as Kane with a two way game. This is not a knock on Kane, it’s to highlight how good Marner is.
- paulr

Marner is a special talent, and Kane only scored 30 goals in a season once in his first eight years or so. I think that Marner will have similar trajectory as Kane’s career, and will score more in the coming years.

I saw them at Sox Park in 1965 - $3.50 ticket - had no idea what they sang. They set up a platform over 2nd base, some speakers in front - totally overwhelmed by - yes - 30,000 screaming teenagers.

Seven bands came on before them - only one (Question Mark and the Mysterians) I had heard of - then the Beatles for 35 minutes.

Paul, how about Keith, Dach, and Beaudin for Marner? Who hangs up first?

Keith! There is no way he’d waive his NMC to go to that mess in Toronto.

If Keith would waive and if the cap numbers work for Chicago it’s a no brainer trade for the hawks.

Like Rod Brindamour told his team and Ayres last night after the game, you play the games and what you really have left years later is the memories.

In my childhood days, Hespeler made a lot of the wooden sticks. A Blue Flash model cost $1.50 at the hardware store and next level up was the Green Flash at $2.00. That stick had to be used for both ice hockey and road hockey. Break it and there was no new stick until next payday. Worse still, my father said hockey tape was a waste of money and he would tape my stick with some black electrical tape.

After Bobby Hull started playing with a stick with a hook in it, CCM came out with the Pro Hook model. It was $3.00 at the hardware store. When the old man saw I had one he gave my mother hell for spending that much money. But what I do remember was firing a puck into the top corner of the net with that stick in a game one Saturday and telling my mother how that stick was so worth it. I think she was even happier than me.

I remember my dad getting a blowtorch out and curving my Hespelers, Victoriavilles and Louisville’s under the door. I also used electrical tape after my dad freaked when I used hockey tape to hold my shin pads on.

If we could somehow pry Jake Bean away from Car, how would he compare to Boqvist as far as prospects go? Reading all the comments, it seems Bean is better, but is that because he's older and further along in his development?
- tvetter

Jake Bean projected as an attacking defenseman and possible the best puck-carrying defenseman in the 2016 class.
There just has been lots of adjustment to the nHl with little uptick, imo.
Compared to Boqvist's shot Bean doesn't have a shot.
Bean has yet to show much physicality or ability to handle the back end as an NHler, so at this time in his development, he projects as a 3rd pair guy, maybe someday good enough to play as second pair, but I don't think his good hands racket him up as a top end get as a prospect, even if the Hawks were replacing all the veterans...the head and feet are a work in progress.
He simply is not of the caliber of upside as Boqvist.

I was well stocked with Pierre Plante's sticks. lol. I probably got more use out of them than he did. My elbow pads were Maggie's. My shin pads were Pit Martin's

Make sure you have an adblock. Most of the links are clean but every once in awhile a funky one pops up. If you put your cursor over the link, it shows what broadcast you will get.

Smith's buyout is pretty painless I guess. Buying him out would save ~2M in cap space after this season.

Well this Blackhawks team is not very good. Guys gotta go, whether we want it to happen or not. Lehner, Gus, Saad, Murphy, Maata, Cagg, Strome, Nylander, KooKoo. ANY of them can go to try and improve our team for future years.. Bowman has to make the numbers work, cap space for next season is looking ugly. The serious Cup runs are OVER. A serious turnover is what I would like to see because this is not working, and no amount of wishing or hoping is gonna change that.

Very true gramps but I would be happy if Stan can package him in a trade.
