According to the rumor ticker on the HB homepage:

Vatanen and Domingue may be in package deal, possibly to Carolina. Can the Hawks beat that deal?

Kapanen being asked for by many teams looking to trade with the Leafs. Are the Hawks in on him, too?

Drouin could be reunited with MacKinnon in Denver. No trade implications on the Hawks, just a Central Division rival getting even stronger.

I hadn’t played in 20+ years and came back to find the equipment lighter and way more expensive. I was a huge wood stick guy. Loved my titans tried an Easton aluminum when roenick and hull were making them relevant but the new sticks are ridiculous. No wonder sticks break on a whim.

Still have my old tacks which are cement blocks vs the vapors.

- SteveRain

I still have my old tacks too. The new equipment is sure lighter and more protective.

A few years ago there was a group of kids who used to play road hockey every day. I was cleaning the garage and came across six or seven old Louisville’s so I called the kids over and offered them the sticks. One kid picks on up and tells his buddies in disbelief “this thing is made of wood”. They all started laughing.

Crawford in net today.

And with that, the Robin Lehner era in Chicago officially comes to an end.

The only move Stan will make will be to announce the new contract extension for Gus.

Haha. The kids today have zero clue.

What is said about that article is that nhl and communities need to develop programs to help offset the costs. Way too expensive. Way too specialized. Parents today are crazier then my time. Every parent thinks their kid is going to the nhl. Nuts.

To your earlier post, if I’m bowman and somebody wants saad they are paying a premium and while youd ideally like them to take back smith that cap hit will be hard for teams to swallow.

I wonder if bowman would be willing to trade saad to Colorado. 🤷🏻‍♂️

In the press release announcing the Carlsson call-up on the Blackhawks website, they show the wrong player (Holm) in the picture. You think someone would have caught that.

I believe Carlsson wore 46 in training camp but wouldn't be surprised if he switches to 23. He wore 23 in Sweden, including in tournaments, and wears it now in Rockford.

- AEL_Fox

He's not gonna be in the NHL long enough for it to matter.

My son, who is 11 now, played with a wood stick for his first couple years. It is very expensive, yes (we just had to spend $220 on a new composite stick a few weeks ago when he broke his), but he loves playing so much, and we love supporting him and watching him develop. We know he is not going to the NHL. That is still his dream though, and we aren’t going to kill it.

Where have ya been Pallie? Crawford proved years ago a goalie doesn’t have to be elite when you’re blessed with a great defense.

If we trade Saad within the division, we better get a haul for him. If we trade Saad chances are he’s going east.

Regarding players like Marner and Kane. I have not watched enough of Loafs games to know Marner's effectiveness at both ends of the ice, but from what I have seen and read, its not the most encouraging. But I have watched 100's of games with Kane. When the Hawks had all those great teams and excellent skaters with speed, Kane and his negative play on the defensive side, did not hurt the team as much as it does today and the last few years, as the team has sputtered. Many many times, he could care less of providing ANY type of backcheck or disruptive play when it is needed as the play goes the other way. Wonder how the Hawks give up so many point blank shots ? How many come when Kane is on the ice and on HIS side ? QUITE a lot. So, while we can look at the stat sheet and see numbers for Marner and Kane, the numbers don't tell the whole story. Yeah these guys are paid to score goals, but the teams need more than that from their bigshot 'scorers' to be good. Except in very exceptional cases, such as the Hawks from 2009-2016. WOW, those teams were SO good. We were really lucky to watch that.

I had a blast playing rep hockey as a kid, playing in tournaments all over Canada, a few in the U.S and one in Sweden. I played against Steve Larmer a couple of times. I made lifelong friends, I tried out for, but didn’t make, a Jr. B team. I continued to play until my late 40s when injuries, knee, shoulders and finally a broken wrist caught up to me. Lots of great memories and I’d never change it. One thing my parents did was use hockey as a carrot for me to apply myself in school. I missed a few games When I was 11 or 12 because I slacked off in school and learned my lesson.

I didn’t realize wood sticks were still available? But then I have no reason to shop for hockey equipment anymore.

Throwing in Smith would lessen your return. He's a negative asset and would never see the ice in CAR.
- BINGO!

He has grit. It is important to lay a hit on a guy while the puck is 50 feet up ice.

They just have buy his useless ass out after the season. No trade is going to clear the amount of cap space as can be accomplished by buying him out.

As you should every kid should have their dreams supported.

My point is hockey is pricing itself out of a vast majority of potential players. Not getting the best possible athletes at an earlier age because their parents can’t afford it.

Niche sport.

The only way trading Saad makes any sense is if Stan intends to go into fire sale mode and gut the team...in which case, the issue of what division he’s traded to matters not IMO.

Last season Marner was on a trajectory to have a similar career as Kane, he still is. While Marner does not possess Kane’s stickhandling ability or shot they are both still above average. Marner is more a playmaker than a scorer who sees the ice and makes passes extremely well and is on par with Kane in those regards. In his first three years Marner had the same numbers as Kane. Add in marner’s above average defensive play and I saw him as Kane with a two way game. This is not a knock on Kane, it’s to highlight how good Marner is.

Like Rod Brindamour told his team and Ayres last night after the game, you play the games and what you really have left years later is the memories.

In my childhood days, Hespeler made a lot of the wooden sticks. A Blue Flash model cost $1.50 at the hardware store and next level up was the Green Flash at $2.00. That stick had to be used for both ice hockey and road hockey. Break it and there was no new stick until next payday. Worse still, my father said hockey tape was a waste of money and he would tape my stick with some black electrical tape.

After Bobby Hull started playing with a stick with a hook in it, CCM came out with the Pro Hook model. It was $3.00 at the hardware store. When the old man saw I had one he gave my mother hell for spending that much money. But what I do remember was firing a puck into the top corner of the net with that stick in a game one Saturday and telling my mother how that stick was so worth it. I think she was even happier than me.
