How are his bad 2 weeks any more importAnt than the bad stretch cc had or less important than his good stretches of play?
- dpard

stop being rational...the only reason this team is not down at the bottom of the league is lehner and craw and now lardass is the reason they are not in playoff contention...

I'm gonna remove the perpetual cloud of doom that floats over me and recall some of Stanley's more positive moves.

-Brandon Bollig for a 3rd from Calgary.
-Ryan "fricking" Hartman for a 1st and pieces from the best GM in the game, David Poile.
-"The" Drake Caggiula for Brandon "Where the hell am I?" Manning.

29 hours to go Stanislav.

- Rota's Rooter

I Iike that positive thinking. Let's send some positive vibes.

its beyond me why lehner would want to stay here....he has faced the highest number of shots and high danger chances of any goalie this year...

this team is probably years away from cup contending...

from the hawk perspective having high $$ and term locked up in a goalie with all the other problems they have makes no sense...until they figure out how to play a consistent team defense, get their 5 on 5 play straightened out and stop the amateur hour pp...it makes perfect sense to move lehner...

from lehners perspective he gets to play for a cup contender and help them to the promise land...

Hearing the same.

Lehner and the Hawks arent the only team though. Anderson, Miller and Dell are out there as well.

Stan has to be careful he doesn't price himself out of a deal with CAR as there arent many other teams out there are in need of a goalie of Lehner's level enough to pay a big return.

- Tyler Cameron

Georgiev as well, but yeah, agreed. I do think that the one thing that's going to force them to stay at the table is Tom Dundon.

With all the momentum in the fanbase as great PR the team has gotten the last year and a half he's going to want to keep pushing for the playoffs.

Gone are the days when Bobby Orr skated and played every day in the winter with the neighbourhod kids on the frozen lake near his house.
Everything is so regimented and organized now for these kids. No money, no play.

Let me add, the most important two weeks of the season, and he laid an egg.
- Angotti

From what i saw, yes he let a couple of soft goals in, mainly 5 hole, but the defense including forwards didn't do him any favors in their own end.

Both goalies are 1-3-1 in their last 5 games, the thing is both goalies are really really good, to put this on them really isn't fair.

The defense has had terrible breakdowns and my favorite play is when they give up a grade a shorty attempt or when the PP clock is expiring and some dumb ass forward tries to bury their slap shot top corner, misses, and the puck rattles around the boards out to the forward coming out of the penalty box. Its frustrating to watch these goalies abandoned time after time.

Top trade priorities IMO are...

1.) Lehner
2.) Smith
3.) Gus

In that order. If any of those three remain after the deadline, and Saad is gone, I’ll be very unhappy.

Because we were right there a couple of points out of a wildcard spot in February, much like in baseball many pitchers win in April, but in September crunch time the can’t handle the pressure. Look that’s just my opinion, I’m not a fan of Lehner, and I’ve been saying that since October.

I don't think Smith will be gone to expensive and offers to little

look at that wonderful start...but that two weeks is unimportant...no playoff implications right...they went 4-7-2 with 8 games at home...craw was not good 1-4, sub .900 save % and poor on the pk...must conclude crow coast them the playoffs the first week of the season...right??

Bogie, I never said that Lehner was the ONLY reason they aren’t in playoff contention- or that the rest of the team (with very few, if any, exceptions) didn’t have equal - or more - responsibility for the failure.

I was also a Lehner supporter early on.

But like the rest of the team, he didn’t perform at a critical time (20 goals against in his last 5 games, in only one of which he gave up less than 4, save percentage under 90%) and that if any of that poor performance was because of contract or TDL issues (as has been at least hinted at), then I’m not interested in moving forward with him at anything close to the contract he’s looking for.

You can’t win championships with a self centered teammate, Lehner is all about himself, I did not like him in October, and I like him less now, he needs to go. The only time he takes responsibility is during shootouts, kind of hard to blame anybody else then when it’s just him and the shooter.

Unfortunately, you’re likely right. Unless Stan can sneak him into a package deal to a desperate team.

Yet the majority here were really excited when Stan made that trade.

How does that old saying go...something about not confusing activity with accomplishments?

Trade all 3 to CAR? CAR has a lot of picks. Prospects outside of Suzuki in junior don’t look too appealing but maybe Wiz could chime in on their prospect pool

As I hinted at in my post just above yours, you could maybe sneak Smith into a larger deal with a desperate team...just makes the return less likely to wow you.

I don’t think anybody here has said that they are not a playoff team because of Lehner. They are not a playoff team because they are a flawed team, and part of their flaw is inexperience from the young guys, plus weak defense, and not enough commitment to defense by their forwards.

Throwing in Smith would lessen your return. He's a negative asset and would never see the ice in CAR.

When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, a wooden stick, $3.00, cost my parents about half an hours pay. Now the (frank)ing sticks cost over $200, about five or six hours pay for the average person. The equipment costs more and the cost of ice and registration costs more. As you said when we were kids in Ontario we could play outside from December to March almost every day. Climate change has messed all that up. Forty to fifty percent of the days between December and March are too warm to maintain the natural ice.

Bring back wooden sticks for kids to at the very least allow parents to afford hockey sticks.

What would CAR realistically give up for Lehner/Gus?

Pronman has them ranked 3rd best in the NHL.

Real strength is in Patrik Puistola, Jack Drury, Jamieson Rees, etc.

Lots of relatively little known players making big impacts against their peers. Suzuki is the only name brand guy.

Honestly I have no idea. At least one 1st will be on the table though.

They've got two 1sts, two 2nds and two 3rds in the upcoming draft.
