He's at 4.5 right now, I don't see him taking a pay cut. Would love for Benning to resign him at 4.5, but not sure that happens unless he really wants to play here.

This is something the team has to get away from. Just accept the price you paid for him as a rental and hope you make the playoffs.

If he’s ok with a short term deal, great, sign him.

There are very few actual consistent players under the age of 26 in the league and that's why they get paid 10 million a season.

Jake will be 24 entering his new contract. I wouldn't be trading him when he's probably about to peak in the next couple years, If anything sign him to a mid range deal, you get twice as much having him signed. Example Coleman.

Miller’s having his best year but he’s been a pretty consistent producer since his first full year in the league at 22 years old.

Loui was coming off a 63 point season then. Teams would be giving you a first and a second for a 60 point player with a couple years left at 5.5 in 3 years.

The risk is that he doesn’t produce, like Loui Eriksson, as good as you’d hoped and then he’s essentially worthless and you have the dead cap space. But you’re right, if he produces at a good clip then you’ll have value.

Since you're a prospect guy, I'm curious, have you been to any Winnipeg Ice games this year? They should have a pretty exciting team next year with Lambos and Savoie, maybe Krebs

After 30 most players tend to decline. You hope for the best but it's unpredictable. Look at Eric Staal, was 30 took some shorter, lower contracts and is still producing quite well at age 35.

Once players get passed 30 you have to be looking at the cream of the crop to continue producing.

Toffoli surely isn't the cream of the crop. He probably has 3 good years left of producing at a decent top 6 pace. Someone is going to pay him for those years.

I saw them play against the Wheat Kings once this year. Other than that no. I don't live in Winnipeg. It is about an hour drive for me to get from where I live to where the Ice play. Since I have a 1 year old and my wife works just about every single Friday, Saturday evening. I don't get to see games anymore.

I've seen Brandon play a few times though. They generally are playing against a really horrible team that has no draft eligible players.

If the Oilers make the playoffs Leon Draisaitl is gonna win the Hart Trophy over McDavid, just realized he has 95 points already, ten game winning goals.

He's the exception because as I said he's the "cream of the crop" of NHL talent over the years.
Parise is 35 and still putting up good numbers.

Speeza, Steen, Koivu all sputtering. Perry, Carter, Eriksson.

Staal, Getzlaf, Bergeron, Ovechkin all still doing well.

Malkin is 33 and well over a ppg. Wheeler almost a ppg at 33

Giroux is 32 now but you are seeing a bit of a decline in his production at least.

I said the same thing when I left Brandon was that I should have went to more junior games. I saw a 1/4 of the season usually but probably could have seen a few more.

I'd really like to go to more games but that's probably years from now. Game starts at 7 pm. Second period is over at 830 ish and with an hour drive home. Baby will be grumpy as heck.

Can't forget about the 2 dance classes on friday nights for the 9 year old. I doubt they will stop for her anytime soon.

They won the Cup in 1975 and drafted 1st overall, you just don’t see poop like that anymore. They went to the finals in 74, 75, 76, 80, 85, 87, 97, 2010, but when Holmgren gave up the GM’s chair he was the last of the oldschool guys. They understood, so we thought, you have to build through the draft, UFA and blockbuster trades aren’t a viable way to build in today’s N.H.L.

It was always reloading for them.
