As far as a multiple player trade with the Flames involving Gradeau...I'd much prefer to use those assets to acquire a 2C...but if I had to make the deal, then I'd want to unload Skinner, get a very solid prospect rather than a "meh" player, and need to get a 1st back this year...else, no deal.
So
Skinner, Risto, 2020-1st
for
Gradeau, Pellitier, 2020-1st
$9m for Skinner is about $1.5m too much, we all knew it was an overpayment.
Now, if they acquire Gradeau and retain Mojo and Olo, they should look to off-load their costly player at the position and NOT create yet another hole to fill.
Pellitier will be a nice 2LW, maybe even grow into 1LW...Flames will push-back, but F'em....Sabres don't need to acquire a LW and the value difference between say Skinner and Gradeau is far, far less than the value gained by using those assets to acquire a true 2C over the likes of Mojo, Lazar, Larsson, Erod...right? Right.
Let's stop playing the patsy for every other GM. - IonSabres
Skinner waiving to go to Calgary? Doubt it.

This entire dog and pony show was always going to lead to termination, from the day he asked for a trade.
-Sabres had no desire to retain salary for such a low grade asset
-The first step in termination is to typically release a player to waivers, to see if any teams will take him for free. This was highly unlikely, as I'm certain Botts would take close to anything as long as his full salary was unloaded without taking garbage back.
-Bogo not reporting was highly likely, simply based on his trade request. He's almost 30 and he wants to spend more years in the NHL. If he reports to the AHL, he won't have a chance to play for a team for the rest of the year.
-The Sabres have paid the majority of his salary already, which is only around 1.6 remaining.
-His agent already figured out that, if his contract was much more reasonable, he'd be employed by a team
-Termination allows him to seek out a deadline deal. It's no coincidence that the timing of this is happening right now. Gives him and his agent the weekend to sign with a team.
-Should this have happened long ago? Yes. But, and I know fans don't give a poop, but you want to do right by the players you employ. Bogo's a respected vet and the team tried to do right by him. Objectively, that's respectable and players outside the organization see this.
-His options were, make 1.6M in the minors, or play for a playoff team and make 700K (or maybe a little more). For a guy who's made a ton of money, having that chance to play in the playoffs is worth the >1M in losses. - TheSabresTaco

Still too early for a few Murray picks, but based on trends, he 'hit' (likely have NHL careers) on 9/25 players. Includes Borgen, Johansson, Guhle, Lemieux, Asplund, with obvious Eichel Reinhart Olofsson and Nylander.
If you remove monkey picks, it's 7/25. He obviously blew the Nylander pick. 28% hit rate, include the 2nd OAs and it's 36%. I'll use 28% because most teams don't have the luxury of being able to make monkey picks.
Just for dandies, Tampa hit on 5/26 (DeAngelo, Point, Cirelli, Joseph and Howden). Not sure where Hajek ends up with the Rags. That's a 19%.
Toronto hit on 4/26, and two of those are Matthews and Marner. Other two are Nylander and Dermott. Count Woll if you'd like, makes it 5/26. Remove the monkey pick and it's 15%
Murray.. coulda been worse. - TheSabresTaco
The problem with this thinking, is every one of TB's hits is better, or more likely to be better than the Sabres picks. They got top 6F/top 4D. We got Nylander who can't cut it with Kane feeding him backdoor passes. It was bad. |

Like I said, Effin Champion of a GM. You should know I know all permutations and outcomes before making the most prolific prognostications ever to come true in the history of this site. As Bran Stark once said, I'm the Three Eyed Raven now.
