Michael Frolik
Pros: Contending teams want respected veterans with a history of playoff success. Although he has just one goal and two points in 15 games, the Sabres might be able to recoup the fourth-round pick they sent to Calgary for him.
Cons: Frolik is a very nice, genuine human being.
See, we told you we could find a reason to keep everyone.

Why? WHY!
Well everyone is whining about a center. Me included. He’s a center.
Gmjr traded for him. Botts loves helping gmjr and the pens are going to need that cap space.
Botts will trade for him!

The one single game that changed USA hockey forever. Thank you Herb! - mhp
This got me curious. I wanted to see who won Gold medals since then.
Soviet Union/Unified Team/Olympic Athletes of Russia 4
Canada 3
Sweden 2
Czech Republic 1
Total Medals since that time:
Soviet Union/Unified Team/Team Russia/Olympic Athletes of Russia 7
Canada 6
Sweden 5
Finland 5
Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic 4
USA 2
Germany 1
Off all the "hockey powers", the US has the least amount of medals since the 1980 Olympics, and only has one more than Germany.
It's a great story, but USA Hockey didn't really become a super power for the sport until the late 2000s/2010s almost 30 years later, and that's really only at the junior level.
Also interesting is that Team Russia has never won gold under that banner. They always went under a different one when they won. |

Bogo contract termination coming soon. He will not report. He needs to play in NHL this year to increase his next contract, so taking a loss now might help him do that.
Cap room = taking cap dump in trade (I suspect, hopefully only a contract that expires this season) |

Sabres threaten to terminate bogoasian’s contract if he doesn’t show up today.
So that is pretty cool. He is giving up 1.6 million. If he signs for the vet min at 700 k. He can make some of that back |

Im convinced a random number generator taking that listed prospect in a prospects book would out draft GMTM and Botts - hubie
Still too early for a few Murray picks, but based on trends, he 'hit' (likely have NHL careers) on 9/25 players. Includes Borgen, Johansson, Guhle, Lemieux, Asplund, with obvious Eichel Reinhart Olofsson and Nylander.
If you remove monkey picks, it's 7/25. He obviously blew the Nylander pick. 28% hit rate, include the 2nd OAs and it's 36%. I'll use 28% because most teams don't have the luxury of being able to make monkey picks.
Just for dandies, Tampa hit on 5/26 (DeAngelo, Point, Cirelli, Joseph and Howden). Not sure where Hajek ends up with the Rags. That's a 19%.
Toronto hit on 4/26, and two of those are Matthews and Marner. Other two are Nylander and Dermott. Count Woll if you'd like, makes it 5/26. Remove the monkey pick and it's 15%
Murray.. coulda been worse. |

This entire dog and pony show was always going to lead to termination, from the day he asked for a trade.
-Sabres had no desire to retain salary for such a low grade asset
-The first step in termination is to typically release a player to waivers, to see if any teams will take him for free. This was highly unlikely, as I'm certain Botts would take close to anything as long as his full salary was unloaded without taking garbage back.
-Bogo not reporting was highly likely, simply based on his trade request. He's almost 30 and he wants to spend more years in the NHL. If he reports to the AHL, he won't have a chance to play for a team for the rest of the year.
-The Sabres have paid the majority of his salary already, which is only around 1.6 remaining.
-His agent already figured out that, if his contract was much more reasonable, he'd be employed by a team
-Termination allows him to seek out a deadline deal. It's no coincidence that the timing of this is happening right now. Gives him and his agent the weekend to sign with a team.
-Should this have happened long ago? Yes. But, and I know fans don't give a poop, but you want to do right by the players you employ. Bogo's a respected vet and the team tried to do right by him. Objectively, that's respectable and players outside the organization see this.
-His options were, make 1.6M in the minors, or play for a playoff team and make 700K (or maybe a little more). For a guy who's made a ton of money, having that chance to play in the playoffs is worth the >1M in losses. |
