we are not getting either

Carl Soderberg will be the savior july 1st

- homiedclown

Lol
Something like that could very well be
But my points still hold up

Bringing in RyJo with that contract is extremely risky gamble that he can be a 70point player here

if you are going to have a defensive coach, no need for a big money second center

Botts lied

he said upbeat north south system

I want my money back for nhl package

- homiedclown

This is the most legitimate complaint against Botts imo

It’s one reason i blasted the ROR trade
None of Berglund, Sobatka or Tage are that type player
It appears now his hands were tied there...
But Hutton has been so bad for the most part that we’ve had to fall back on this defensive system

And that, is clearly Botts’ fault
We need a goalie upgrade badly

And what if they don’t have chemistry?

Ppl are acting like they’re a perfect for just bc he’s a pass first guy
We don’t know if they’ll work together or not

- jdfitz77

To be fair you could make the same argument that we dont know if casey or cozens will turn into what we hope they will.

If botts could get a bonified playmaking 2c (not necessarily Johansen, but one in general) for a decent price I think it's worth a hard look. In a perfect world GMJB convinces ROR to be patient for 1 more year and maybe he gets to play with skinner and we have 2 great scoring lines - unfortunately it didnt work out that way. In general I feel that getting a bonified 2c by sacrificing assets would greatly benefit this team. Just my 2 cents

I agree 100%. I just don’t think Johansen is a guy I would want rotting away here.

If we had that 2C and a goalie,
then we could play a more offensive style

Yes... that’s on Botts

Like i asked earlier though...
if Mitts &/or Cozens works out,
aren’t we in pretty good shape all of the sudden?

Still need 6k to work out too
Or get a good goalie to pair with Ullmark

But Botts can go from goat to hero really quick if some of the youth develops like they’re projected to

And yeah, that’s an if
But i think it’s likely, and I’m gonna remain hopeful

The difference is that if Mitts or Cozens don’t work out then we aren’t stuck with an 8mil cap hit for 6years

And i agree about getting a legit 2C
I just question that Johansen is that guy

I would have signed Vanek over trading for Frolic.
- SABRES 89

Or Pomenville for half a season at a hometown discount. Dumping Scandellas cap hit and immediately refilling it with Frolik was idiotic.

Not saying I’d like it. Would it really surprise you? Maybe all three could rotate the spot?

I have zero confidence in Mitts.

I really wish they wouldn't rush Cozens, and if he does make the team, they better shelter him correctly with an actual 2C.

Oh, hell, they'll (frank) it up.

That's true, but with a static AAV and a generally increasing cap the 8mm will hurt less over time. In 3 years Jack's contract will be a bargain on his current trajectory. Having 4 top 6 players and making 1 of them do it all themselves on the second line really makes the job hard. Based on Johansens historical stats and regression to the mean while also pairing him with an elite finisher I'd bet a hefty sum that his statistics and play would be better next year than it is this year.

Ultimately my point is a bonified 2c in his prime would go a long way in helping this team reach the next step.

Same could be said for Skinner, but what would Johansen do for Skinner and Mojos games. And I would think Rhino would have to go back in the trade.

I couldn’t agree more
Where we differ is that i have serious doubts that Johansen is that guy
And i have faith that Cozens will reach his projected ceiling, or close to it

Now if we wanna talk about bringing in another “2C” besides Johansen...
I’m much more into the idea

Otherwise,
I think a “good” placeholder till Cozens is ready for 2C is the way I’d go
And i also still have hope for Mitts

OR
If we are gonna risk it on a guy we think can be a legit 2C but is having a down season...
Trocheck makes much more sense to me
4.75mil for 2 more years after this

Good 2way player
Decent playmaker, and has shown good goal scoring ability in the past

For me, that’s a much better gamble
Bc if he doesn’t work out, it doesn’t kill us like $8mil for 5 more years does

How about something like this?

Trade for Bonino- he’d cost considerably less
Sign Hoffman (or Dadonov, etc)

Olofsson-Jack-Sam
Skinner-Bonino-Hoffman
Mitts-Cozens-MoJo
Girgs-Larsson-Okposo/Lazar

Whoever is ready to be 2C first between Mitts & Cozens moves up

That looks like a legit top9 to me
With a good defensive 4th line

And then just upgrade Hutton to a decent goalie to pair with Ullmark

Mitts was/is entitled. Probably felt like he was Botts’ boy and didn’t need to backcheck, work hard, or take his conditioning seriously.
I hope he comes into next season a little more mature.
People here were pretty optimistic about him. I dont think anyone was predicting he’d start the season on the Sabres and end it with the Amerks.

Here’s to hoping Cozens has a polar opposite attitude and work ethic. He’s looking great in juniors, I hope an opportunity with the big club doesn’t end up being a setback.
