How's this for a conversation? "Well Yanni, Andre, Tyler (insert name here) you can take the huge pay cut and play in Syracuse for the Crunch, or you can take no pay cut and play for Florida, Nashville or Dallas and keep your current salary. Will you waive no trade now?" People waive no trade clause all the time. Gives them some say over where they will go, but if you're not wanted anymore you want to go somewhere where you can play. Granted, they have to clear waivers if sent down and may not. But, would you lose Gourde for nothing to clear the cup space to sing Cirelli and have Coleman fill Gourde's spot for a third of the money? Organizationally all day long. Especially with his production this year versus his cap hit. - 33eagle
How about this Conversation,
Yanni's Agent -
Ya, no, but thanks though. Go ahead, send him to Syracuse...you save $1,075,000. Yanni still gets the full contract value of $5,166,666 annually...because it is a One Way Contract. See how long you keep your job. If you're going to play hardball, maybe you want to trade Kuch or Point.
Now, how about you work with these 10 teams he is willing to go to...think about it, call me back.

Making a trade is difficult.
Attracting good free agents to Buffalo is challenging.
There is a significant chance that next year’s 2C will be Mitts, Mojo, or Cozens. |

I’m not saying i want Cozens at 2C
But i also don’t wanna bring in a guy for 6yrs at 8mil per who is underachieving
Doesn’t make sense to me bc i believe Cozens will be ready for 2C sooner than later
Would make much more sense to bring in a placeholder than to devote all that Cap to a guy who is failing in his role - jdfitz77
Seems to me like it'd be an opportunity to buy low on a very good playmaker (who's only 27) who we can pair with upper echelon scorer - have to think both would increase their production by a reasonable amount. If cozens is the real deal in 3 years, in a world where RJ's overall impact to cap % has likely decreased, odds are you could flip Johansen for a decent return if you feel you dont need him.

He's 27, having a down year, the only problem is the 8 mill, but in a year or so 70 pt Centers, probably be the going rate. - Buff36
Sure...
and he probably can bounce back
But we have Cozens coming...
So why devote $8mil of our Cap to Johansen for the next 6years?
And what do we have to give up to get him?

IF he bounces back
If he just lacks heart, effort & consistency and that’s led to his underperforming
If you could really “buy low” on him,
then maybe it’s worth the gamble
But it makes more sense to me to get a cheaper placeholder who’s still decent, or even good
And devote that $$$ to a RW like Hoffman or Dadonov (just for example) that consistently plays well |

That combined with Fiala for Granlund and Girard for Turris is main examples on why trades to “win now” more often than not blow up in your face.
