After Johnny hockey said he would play with the Philadelphia Flyers it's been weird ever since - gerbe75pts
I think it became weird when they paid him 40 million and he slowed down to 14 goals this year.
He jeff skinnered them. Its gonna get weird around here in 2 years if skinner only has 14 goals in 60 games.
Fighting for the playoffs. Easy scapegoat |

It was a compliance buyout, there's no cap hit.

Lol I literally have 0 faith in botts making a big move.
But I will say this. I would like to see botts plan come into action and keep him for atleast 1 more year
Why: If we fire botts ..... no veteran Gm will touch this roster with a 50 ft pole.
So we get another wannabe first time gm like botts or Timmy and then back to square one.
The new gm also fires Ralph and then good luck finding a new coach. Before Ralph, veteran coaches didn’t even want to interview here.
So I want to see the plan actually happen. As much as it pains me to say |

Tim Murray was forced to expedite the rebuild and gave away the farm for O’reilly and Kane Lehner
Botts is saving the farm
We don’t know what his plan is .... but I want to see it through |

There are only 31 jobs available at the highest level. Maybe 5 a year. There are always people who would kill for the job (not to mention the Sabres have two amazing foundational pieces). If your guy isnt the right guy for the job, you make a change. I personally also don't think a retread is necessary or even a good idea at all |

Well written blog, again. Too bad the sabres are so bad I am avoiding most of my usual hockey reading.
I'm going to throw down a bit of a run on post that you should all just ignore, mostly for therapeutic reasons...
Everything in the NHL should be thought of as an asset. A pick is a high return, high risk investment that takes 2-4 years to mature. Exception is a top ten pick, which is a relatively low risk, high return, investment that starts paying off in 0-3 years usually.
A prospect is a lower risk, lower return investment that starts paying dividends in a similar time frame to a top ten pick.
A roster player is an investment that pays dividends now, basically. Cap space is just a roster player in disguise. Having 5 million is cap space is better than having a 5 million dollar roster player if you can get a better free agent for 5 million. That simple. Most people forget that when the Bruins traded a premium asset like Thornton, the biggest asset they got back was 7 million in cap space, a portion of which became Savard.
The problem with Botteril is the same as Murray, he mismanages assets. Simple. Murray did great liquidating his assets into picks, but when it cam time to convert the picks back into prospects or roster players, he either made poor trades or bad draft picks. It wasn't the actual trading away of picks that was the problem, it was the poor returns.
With Botteril, how many times does he need to mismanage an asset before it becomes too painfully obvious he's not good at this?
1. Scandella, traded for a fourth, goes for a 2nd and a 4th the same year.
2. OReilly, nuff said.
3. Skinner - good trade, but in less than a year he managed to A) Not resign him after the trade and wait to see how the season went, B)inflate Skinner's value by playing him all season with Eichel, C) overpay him to keep him, wasting a valuable 1-2 million cap space, an ASSET, and finally D) stop playing him with Eichel, so his value plummets. In one year he managed to turn a young, affordable goal scorer into a 9 million dollar dead weight.
4. Risto - he has held this asset forever, and the value of the asset has dropped basically every year. I doubt he even brings in a top six forward now, where 2 years ago he would have brought in a major piece.
5. Evander Kane
6. Mittelstadt - an 8th round pick has to be big for you, and it's not just the draft pick being a bust, it's how he was managed that many rightly feel ruined him.
7. Hunwick and Sheary.
8. Reinhart, should have been signed long term for 5-7 million, instead will be our next overpaid player
Enough is enough. - matty12345

I don't he Ignored the most important league for 2 drafts then when he got called out for it he finally drafted a player out of the CHL
- He never fixed the center position 2 years straight
- He never made a trade after 2 years Of going on a winning streak and saving the season
He has no plan hes clueless
