The Marleau trade pisses me off. From day 1 it was clear the third year was too much. I always thought it was set up to trade him off, with that diving salary and such, which is why it bothers me they had to cough up a first rounder.

I'm also not against trading Barrie. He's somewhat redundant, and if they can get some good picks for him, I'd do it, regardless of the fact that the defense is not that great to begin with.

Your top players need to not only produce, they need to set the example for the team. I don't think any of them are setting a high enough standard right now. A lot has been said about the Penguins being held to the standard that Crosby sets for the team. I believe there is something to that.

You're right, but do you put that kind of pressure on a 22 yr old Auston Matthews or on the 29 year old captain?

he can have a 80 corsi.

crosby will find the guy he's not covering and he'll be -3 on the ice on 3 shots on net.

but i know. +/- doesn't matter.

- Tumbleweed

Maligns career shot suppression and shot share is better than most on the Leafs.

Quit talking out of your ass.

You're being so Walshy right now! Bring back Weedsy.

At the start of the season, I expected more from Andersen, Tavares, Barrie and Kerfoot. These guys need to be better if we are to make the playoffs.

Captain underpants should man up - if he feels he can leave the ugly mustache, he should be ready for some responsibility and pressure as well.
it comes with the 50+ million contract.

He's played 184 games over the past 4 years with the Panthers so even just seeing him play against the Leafs multiple times, he's nothing really that special. You notice him more because his name is Malgin and you start to wonder when Geno got traded to Florida and lost 8 inches.

He's wanted a trade out of Florida for awhile so he'll probably play like he's been shot out of a cannon the first few games and then go back to being a meh player.

- JohnFergusonJr

Guaranteed hatty next Thursday in Sunrise...
Thought Malgin would develop into more. He was rushed his rookie year (Hubie, Bjugstad out long term to start season, and then Barkov got hurt, too). Shows flashes but never seems to take the next step. It maybe could be said that he was also always scratched after a game or two and never really got to work through it. He is rather easily knocked off the puck, though.

Dermott still adjusting and still getting back into it
Marincin
Sandin - he’s been ok but 1st year guy 15 games?
lily just ok 1st year
Holl 1st year - good O, not sure about his D
Muzzin hurt and a little slow
Rielly hurt and wasn’t playing great
Barrie ok O, not that great in our zone

We’re probably lucky to be where we are, thats not even looking at the forward injuries.

So, Tavares with the $77M contract, shouldn't need to be the captain?

He hasn't made a head scratching trade like Martin Erat for Filip Forsberg?

The Kadri trade had to be done.. If you recall, it was Kadri that blocked a trade to Calgary, we could have had Jankowski and Brodie.. So, Dubas had to find another trading partner.
The Nylander deal, Dubas didn't cave. It's fair market value for Nylander.

Campbell/Clifford was a good trade, it cost two 3rd round picks and Trevor Moore.. We have Campbell for 2 more seasons.

The Marleau dump was a necessity.. If not for that, we couldn't re-sign Marner and that was Lou's contract negotiation..

Brought in Muzzin and Barrie, it's fine to say Barrie hasn't worked out, but Dubas did bring him here.

The cost for a UFA defenseman seems high right now, based off of what other teams have paid..
IMO, he's done a good job so far.

- PatC80

Well, he has worked through some tough jams.

On the other hand, there is only one top prospect left and a bunch of missing draft picks. They are up against the cap, and in serious danger of not making the playoffs. He also seems to have seriously misjudged the value of a backup goalie and that may yet be the difference between making or missing the playoffs.

I think you can only judge him on the bottom line, and that bottom line doesn't look good.

I think he still needs to be given time since he did inherit some problems. I also think that pretty much everything hasn't worked out so far this year.

he's garbage. his goalies are always fishing the puck out of the net with him on the ice. shot metrics aren't the be all end all.

tallon wouldn't have traded him to us if he was any good.

and objectively - dubas has a garbage track record of picking up other teams redemption projects.

Marner has been pissing me off a lot lately. Bad passing and trying to force plays on the pp has made him predictable, which is exact opposite of what he needs to be.

Maybe, they really need Rielly back.. From what I've read, he's the more vocal leader, he's a guy that can motivate.

We've had our fair share of injuries this season.

You're right, not everything has worked out this year, he may have addressed the backup goaltending issue a little too late, (thanks Hutch for going on a 4 game winning streak.)

Barrie hasn't been as good as he was in Colorado, but that's not on Dubas.. Maybe. it's just not a good fit.

I have missed some games this season, I guess where he didn't play well were some of those? Games I saw he has been at least a 6, most of the time a solid 8.

The Kadri trade is smelly but doobies biggest misstep is not having the blueline corrected and the two are obviously connected.

The thing is, with the wrangling it took to get this far, I can't fault him for not having the blueline addressed in the first summer. He had a core to extend and numerous cap issues to deke around to get to this point.

Finding Barrie at his salary was obviously key to the Kadri deal and I'm assuming options were limited on that front.

It looks ugly now cause of where we are but i have no issue with what's been done to put the team where it is.

- joel878

Good points
I feel the kadri deal was good, and barrie has performed well. He just wasnt the type of d we needed most.
Also people had too high of expectations from him. Some were saying he would get 70-75pts.
