seriously... the slow and plodding Gauthier...

he's been scratched recently, plays what 5-8 minutes a night - and you have an issue with that.

there's a group of guys who routinely play twice as many minutes and contribute nothing.

and Malgin is going to be a defensive stalwart when he arrives in the Blue and White...

should be interesting to watch.

implying that a little used guy like Gauthier is a big problem just feeds the narrative that there are people to blame - other than the highly paid guys. Those guys should be setting the tone.

picking on Gauthier is just dumb.

I figured it out, it’s coaching. Keefe needs to be more specific...he said “make sure you watch the guys in front of the net”

So they did.

that was the one i think he should have had.

hit the goal stick on the way down; probably hits him in the pads if not.

Ok much as I don't like moving Marchment... IF he made it really he was ever only gonna be a 4th liner really. So this is really just a shuffle deck chairs. That said we also have a lot of wingers and our center depth pretty much SUCKS.

Ok so... move a guy for a center. Im ok with that I guess. I mean IF we moved Kerfoot gonna need someone there. Cause really after the big two we have Kerfoot/Spezza and then Goat. And Spezza likely leaves end of this season.

I wonder though is this a prelude to a move with Kerfoot in it?

Who would want kerfoot?.. Leafs will have to add a pick to unload him,

i hope malgin isn't penciled in as the replacement.

but i won't miss kerplunk's lazy ass sitting in the penalty box if they can move him.

sackic put the screws to dubas dumping kerplunk and barrie on him. seemed like the other way around at the time.

Like Kerfoot, Malgin sucks at being a center. He can't win FOs and he's tiny. Malgin is a winger and he occasionally scores points. But that's all he does.

This trade was a hail Mary by Dubas to try and replace Johnsson in the short term on the cheap. But ultimately, they traded another big body for a small skill player. This team has enough skill. What they lack is size, toughness, heart and soul.

I like Marchment because he's a good story and was good for the Marlies. Where did this myth if him playing a physical game come from though? Does taking penalties = sandpaper?

Did any of us have Engvall ahead of him at the start of the season, though? He's not playing ahead of Human, Johnsson (when healthy), Kerfoot (occasionally), or Engvall. Maybe not Timashov or Brooks either. I wish him the best with Florida. Maybe this other guy can Displace the 🐐

I think they're both 4th liners but Marchment is better suited to be a 4th liner.

It's just a microcosm of Dubas. Speed and skill is important but the Leafs just don't have enough of the other elements that hockey requires. He went out and got Clifford and instead of adding to that element, which the team desperately needs, he goes back to more small players.

Yes.

marchment is not nhl.

he's still awkward on his skates. doesn't have great balance.

but seems like we could have included him in a package to a team like anaheim.

Elliotte Friedman on SN960 says he thinks Toronto's been pretty active on the phone lines today. Looking for depth forwards and maybe a D or so. Still looking at RHD too. Bruins active too around Palmeri, Krieder, Josh Anderson. Josh Anderson's health is a storyline to watch.

Pierre LeBrun says Toronto and Buffalo have discussed Rasmus Ristolainen but it would likely need to be an offseason deal

I wouldn’t either.

Botrill was telling Lebrun he has a top 4 RHD for the leafs. the speculation is Risto.

No thanks.

Kapanen is going to be traded.
Dubas looks like he is replacing kapanen.
This kid looks like he can fit in that 3 W slot that Kap leaves behind.

Don't they have some master skating coach?

But Marchment is besides the point. I don't even really care about Marchment per se. I'm saying Dubas keeps bringing in these tiny players instead of bringing in some players who bring different dimensions to their game.

He went out and got Clifford. Great. But one guy isn't enough. They need to bring in guys who compete, who dig, maybe hit, maybe fight, who can win battles with their body, cycle the puck. Remember the game against Dallas, Clifford drops the mits and the team woke up for a bit. They still lost but again, it provided a spark. Maybe if they had one or two more of these types of guys, that happens more often. It's a big thing they lost when they traded Kadri.

Instead, another tiny speed / skill winger with the hope of replacing Johnsson's "scoring". They got guys who can score already. Get guys who can dig deep and play hard nosed hockey when the rest of the team is asleep.

Just curious, how many times have you watched Malgin play???

(Serious question too, not just fu3king with you.)

Edit: if he's anything like Gallagher or Marchand, I'm in.

PS: I don't think Marchment was good at all. If your complaint is about just size, I totally get it, not a fan of this small and skilled mentality either, but it's a nothing trade.

Malgin is nowhere near as good or talented as Kapanen in any way shape or form.

Kapanen skates faster, he's bigger, he scores more and he kills penalties.

Johnsson and Kerfoot should get moved way before Kapanen does.

And there's zero reason to move Kapanen to make a push this season because they aren't going anywhere this year anyway.

I've got a cousin who's a big Panthers fan so I end up seeing a lot of those games, including in person. He's really not that good. He's a slightly more accomplished Petan (another small, skill failure by Dubas).
