sure, but when STl traded him they still had Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester, and Parayko...........that's 3 guys who were, at the time, better than the leafs best dman this year (considering that Rielly's been having a rough year).

even without Shattenkirk, the Blues had a GREAT top 4......even with Barrie, the leafs top 4 isn't that strong, trading him (without replacing him) would make it significantly worse. Sandin and Lillejgren (sp?) will be great, but probably not ready to be top 4 guys on a playoff team yet.

I think trading barrie essentially means throwing in the towel on the season....without subsequent moves to bolster the top 4

I basically read this to say that any player that doesn't become a star or contribute at the NHL level, it's a bad trade? Without even considering what went the other way? i.e. any AHL for AHL player is a bad trade because the player doesn't become a star?????

Malgin is getting way too much press. They traded a guy who doesn't look like he'll be an NHL player, and if he does, tops out as a depth player, for a forward that is depth NHL caliber, because they needed a forward because of injury. And that's a failure? Jeez. It's a rather inconsequential trade in the grand scheme of things, but there is nothing wrong with it, other than fools want to continue to discuss it, especially those that want to trash Dubas over it.
