Bingo! Players play, coaches coach. If you don't like the record look at the players. You can't rationalize a bad team into a good team. - rpeters01
not sure if youre being sarcastic or what. the current Stanley Cup proves this logic is BS. So as NYI and so many teams.
Would you have coached this team to 29 wins? Even with all the injured players healthy? |

😂... Well they seem to think they do. Debrincat, Strome (I hope not), Dach, Boqvist, Mitchell once he gets here.
I personally think there are too many question marks
to call it the new core but it sure seems like Bowman and McD believe that. - Toew Drags 4 Daze
So we are replacing Keith, Seebrook, Hossa, Sharp and take your pick with them? Explains the falling off a cliff it's obviously JC's fault. |

The Islanders and Blues would kill us with Scotty Bowman coaching Chicago the team sucks. |

TYLER, is that Keith & Toews for Kopitar & Doughty still going to happen?
If so, will the 2 teams also swap Crawford & Quick? - scottak
No Lehner instead of Crawford for Quick. |

I'd rather make the commitment to go full-on young on D and let Boqvist, Beaudin,Mitchell, and Gilbert play with growing pains with a few veterans. - NamedSources
I've not heard anyone say Gilbert will ever be a top 6 NHL Defenseman? |

To answer your question posed at the end of your post, only Keith and Crawford meet your criteria as far as current Hawks.
Seabrook, Saad, and Shaw never spent a full season in Rockford or Norfolk when the AHL team was in Virginia. - AEL_Fox

Crawford because of playoff experience and 2 cups. If sakic wants a goalie long term then lehner should be the choice. Hawks should be asking for prospect bowers/ naut and a pick. - Scott1977
You're gonna be greatly disappointed with the return they get if they trade either goalie |

For sure. I just don't think the guy behind the bench has any idea how to actually coach or make adjustments. A competent person behind the bench has them in the playoffs even with their lack of speed. - fattybeef
I don't know if they are a playoff team with a different coach. I was one of the guys who bought it hook line and sinker and thought with Bowman's additions this summer they had enough. Added some veteran blue line guys, got carpenter, got lehner…..I was all aboard a shot at 2/3 division seed.
All I know is, is that this defense is a damn dumpster fire. So is it how their coverage is or is it guys regressing.....No clue.
WE will see how committed they are towards the rebuild. IF they stick with Bowman AND JC then that's the tell.
IF they fire JC and keep Bowman, they feel the same way you do.
IF they fire both could be they expected more, wanted a new approach or a combination of both.
Is there a veteran coach who take this roster as is and get more out of it starting in October as we all have to figure the lack of cap flexibility will still be there so he, new coach, wouldn't be able to add HIS type of players right away. |

Is that what you comprehended from LA’s post? He said why would you hire Laviolette or Gallant when they were unable to get much out of better teams than the Blackhawks. - paulr
Well the Hawks on paper were more talented then the Panthers when Q was fired and Florida hired him....
Coaches get fired all the time…..message goes stale, GM may be panicking to show ownership he's trying to get the team going (see Toronto), or god knows what else.
What I think we should all agree is that coaches available are upgrades over JC.....
HOWEVER....that all depends if Bowman feels this team is ready to get back to the playoffs with more tinkering and needs an experienced coach to maximize those results.....OR.....they are happy with a slow retooling.

After the Penguins beat up on the spineless Maple Leafs on Tuesday, Craig Button gave his own 2-1/2 minute evaluation of what's wrong with Toronto on TSN. He skewered everybody - the Coach, Auston Mathews, John Tavares, Willie Nylander and the General Manager.
1) Defensive Zone play - been a problem for years. Obvious problem but nothing ever changes.
2) lack of attention to the details of the game - being in the right position on the ice, stopping on pucks, working hard without the puck. The work is too hard, skill players aren`t interested in that.
3) Team Composition - built one way because the General Manager decided to build the team based on skill as the only important criteria. Don`t have the players to play in the trenches and along the boards in body on body battles. They are a BAD COMBINATION OF WONT AND CAN`T.
I can think of another team in the Central that this evaluation applies to. - RickJ
Valid point....Im just personally tired of the tough talk and then come out lay egg after egg after egg when they need a HUGE win.
The special team....PP.....has been dog poop
THe home ice advantage is non existent....if they keep coming out flat then they need to change the routine as to how they prepare. Stick these idiots in a hotel until they defend their home ice. They are awful this year at home.....
Everything else I agree with....they are mentally non existent and make massive errors and non forced errors that kids don't make on Saturday mornings.
SO is it talent or coaching? Or both? Either way its one thing to lose when you have a full on rebuild with very few veterans.....but even their "leaders" making stupid plays each and every game. |

its both, but singling out the coach or players is dumb. the point is, it needs to be fixed. But the old saying "you cant trade the whole team" so the coach has to go. If not, then more of the same.
thats my new saying now, "more of the same" about these Hawks. Unless big sweeping changes, from SB or JC, or the roster

Anyone else ever have the feeling that there’s a player or two that never accepted the idea of Colliton as coach? At times I’ve had a nagging feeling that he’s being undermined.

This is one of the issues I have with Marc Crawford being brought in. We have Scotty Bowman to mentor JC, we didn’t need a one-and-done coach who couldn’t stick in Ottawa. Crawford feels more like a upper management plant to monitor and undermine the young coach. |

I have a thought - maybe the game has passed Scotty by. Maybe his influence is what is the root cause of the issues. |

Well, I will say it. Gilbert skates well, has a decent shot, and has PLENTY of energy. There is talent there, and I expect him to get another chance when the dust settles or some trades are made. |

I'm confused - and a bit stunned (altho it seems we've heard this before).
If they aren't "teaching" and playing Colliton's Chicago system in Rockford, how can they expect call-ups to quickly adapt to the "man and a half" system here? Or - if the Hogs do a better job of protecting the house - why aren't they using the Rockford system in Chicago?
Shouldn't an organization like a sports operation be teaching the same system at all levels?
This seems very dysfunctional.... - StLBravesFan
While I am far from being a hockey expert as it goes to the X's and O's on offense, defense, and special teams, there are some similarities but also stark differences between how the Hawks and Hogs play.
I do agree with you, though, that it is ideal for the parent team and farm teams to align with strategies and philosophies as they would decrease the learning curve for prospects if and when they are called up. |

Most likely this ship has sailed, but I would bring back Trent Yawney. Ask Keith and Seabs how he is as a coach? - powerenforcer
Yawney would be great, actually, but agree that ship has sailed. I can't see him wanting to coach at the minor league level when he can find plenty of opportunities to coach in the NHL, even if as an assistant.
A former pro defenseman who thrived at defending would be one possible criteria for a new developmental coach. So that rules out Brian Campbell who does stand behind the Hogs bench for many games. |

Steve Larmer? - rpeters01
I had to look it up. Larmer spent one season (1981-82) in the minor leagues for the New Brunswick Hawks. Played 74 games, scoring 86 points. |
