Jesus H some of the poop you say is a little silly.

Tyson Barrie IS a top 4 dman, it's ridiculous to think otherwise. Cody Ceci was what they had to take on to get rid of Zaitsev's salary. They dumped a long term salary for one that was over in a year (for a player that was already qualified).

I know eh....

Just when you think all the windows have been licked clean, Max posts again!

He's either a troll or out to lunch.

Tyson Barrie NOT a top 4 dman? he may not be what the Leafs need(ed), but it's silly to suggest he doesn't belong in the top 4. I can' quite think of a team in the league he doesn't fit in the top 4 of.

Weren’t the Nucks being laughed at and expected to finish near the basement?

- Garnie

Well that probably should have been the goal.
instead they may trip into the playoffs...or miss

making that the 5th year in a row...or 1 playoff round in 7 years.

based on all that success, of course they should be going for it

Don't let doubt get into your head. Barrie is a top 4 RHD. The trade had to be made, couldn't afford Kadri getting suspended in the playoffs again.

Yeah, Marchment was effective those 4 NHL games of his.. I wonder, how he'll do on the Panthers AHL affiliate

they're only 2 points out of 9th place, playoffs are no guarantee for them. Could be (maybe even likely) they end up out of the playoffs for the 7th time in 8 years. And that division is completely horrible.

Babcock had been asking for additions on defense for over a year though. not like this was a big surprise this season (oh wait - barrie and ceci were top4 d-men in dubas' book).

the obvious solution is to trade Nylander.
he's a very good player (at least he's got some very good specific skills) which makes him the ideal piece in a trade for a young d-partner for rielly.

Dubas is very risk-averse though - I haven't seen anything from him which was a big move.

- plantheparade

come on... why would the GM listen to the coach?

all this nonsense about GM being risk averse and not...

without CAP constraints that he himself was partially responsible for - does Dubas make the

i) Kadri trade? probably not
ii) Marleau deal was made to get rid of the CAP impact of his contract
iii) Zaitsev/Brown for Ceci - again CAP management necessity

so.. he didn't make those deals because he was "risk averse" ... he made those deals to free up cap space for Marner's deal that had to be signed...

so give him credit for making the deals he HAD TO.. to make cap space..

but don't try and create the aura of some hockey guru making deals to "improve the team"... none of those deals improved the team.

just like the Petan and now Malgin deals.

the Muzzin and Campbell deals improved the team - because they addressed obvious gaps... and those required some courage to complete... because Dubas had to give up assets.

but let's not unnecessarily "call him the greatest GM ever"... he's done some good stuff... and he's had some missteps..

They signed Tyler Myers to 47 years X $62 gajillion.

Don’t blame us for laughing at them.

It's the principle of the trade. Another hard working, big body who plays hard nosed hockey for another undersized, weak player.

They are both 4th liners. Marchment at least has the benefit of being able to play a 4th line game.

While clearly overpaid, Myers is a good player.

I'm sure the Jets are missing him.

Those 4 career games that Marchment played were near Wayne Gretzky-levels in terms of on ice production.. I'm shocked we didn't get Parayko for Marchment. Panthers got a steal

15th overall.... getting closer!
- BINGO!

Not worried. Theres Probably a good chance Duba's gets a player just as good at 50 as what the Canes would pick at 15. J/k......

How could you possibly care?

It’s a guy you have never heard of, traded for a guy who will never get a regular shift in the NHL.

again, expectations are on different planets for some reason

Benning has drove the Canucks to playoff misses while not really ever rebuilding...moreso falling into a few players...all while trying to make the playoffs every season

But lets applaud the nucks..and fire Dubas

yeah, I think it was just as much about getting a dman that fit under the cap, no matter who it may be, and with the Avs willing to retain, you take what you can get.

There was little to no flexibility this past summer, I was impressed that he managed to put together the defense he did, regardless of it not being overly great defensively.

I'm hoping a couple of promotions from the Marlies, Ceci coming off the cap, and maybe a youngster coming in at forward makes someone like Kerfoot expendable, and they have the cap to add another decent dman this summer. If you add a decent dman to Rielly, Muzzin, Dermott, Sandin, Liljegren, depending on how the youngsters play, that could be a decent defense. A good solid defensively guy. Don't care if he scores points or not.

yeah I'm not really all that impressed by the Canucks. I don't see the makings of an elite team there. And Benning has been a pretty bad GM. They've had a fair bit of anchor contracts there.

Now that Marchment was traded, we lost our one shot at Parayko..

It sucks, Dubas can't do anything right.. Except for trading for a team need.

shouldn't have fired babcock, now all the negative attention is on dubas. his coaching change did little to nothing short term and he may not be around to see any long term effects.
