we got so much damned money tied up in Marner/Tavares and Hyman is a better all round player at this point. |

if you look at the prices just paid for D, maybe close to a 1st
I just doubt Dubas is looking at trading him unless there is another RHD in the works.
Ceci is out, Holl is regressing. subtract Barrie ..then what? - senstroll
When I take a step back and look at the big picture and take into context what likely management views their team as, I don't see a trade being worth it for Barrie. Management sees the team as a window for this year into the next 4 years beyond and I think they look at what they get for Barrie and ask "does this help us in our window?" Answer is likely not. |

I think Marner is the only one overpaid really. I can't see paying wingers that much money anymore. He's great but he isn't a center. |

Why? They have Hughes playing 5 minutes of PP a night. - AdamFrench
I'm not even sure trading for Barrie to be on the PP would be a good idea for any team (don't think he's particularly good).
Barrie might do better on a team like Philadelphia where there are a lot of hardworking defensive-responsible forwards (so he can take a risk and not necessarily directly create a goal against)

i just dont see it making sense either.
Unless like I said, there is another deal in the works.. which I doubt.
You just cant trade him for the sake of it and run with Holl and Lilygrin as your top RHD |

this comment really shows you shouldn't be writing about the Leafs.
2 of the core guys that actually show up in playoff and you sell them as a 'negative' yet Johnsson and Nylander are 'great players' in your world... |

Marners number might look good, but that's all that does.
He doesn't look nearly like the player he was last year- no urgency, no creativity, easily taken off the puck etc. etc. etc.
Not sure what to do to get him dialled in, but he's looking like one of the most over rated players in the league at this point... |

Some people think exactly that though. "More assets". Sometimes it doesn't make sense. |

I thought the Leafs might be inquiring about the availability of Hainsey and Zaitsev. |

Serious question about Dumba
The consensus is that he is a young, physical offensive dman who has issues defensively
Isn’t that the coaches job to teach defensive systems and correct any issues?
Do we not have any confidence in our coaches?
If a guy can skate, hit and has a big shot.....it seems much easier to tell him where to stand than develop a skill set |

A 2nd round pick isn’t making this team better the next 3-4 years. Chances are high that 2nd never makes this team better.
Keep him because making the playoffs matters. If the Leafs waste a year they waste a year on a shot at a cup.
It’s not like they have the depth to replace him either...it’s by far their weakest position.
The only way they trade him is if they get a replacement in return somehow. |

Yeah some people dive too much into numbers like they will translate the exact same into a different team.
I think him and Muzzin would be an excellent pair. |

I think the equation is simple. They need Barrie right now. BUT, if they can flip him for some assets and then use those assets to help acquire a longer term fix on D then he'll be gone. |

I don't think the current or many previous coaches taught the Leafs how to play defense. Last coach was probably Pat Quinn.
Defense isn't as hard as the players make it seem. Take your man, be a nuisance and fight for better positioning that makes it difficult for them to score. Instead they puck watch and let their man find open ice for an easy tap in. It's getting ridiculous..

Jets are being crushed by CAP. Demelo was about the only Dman they could afford. Dorion did Chevy a huge favour. We will see if there is another Jets/Sens deal this summer.

Coach was fired and that hasn't done much. If you can't respect babcock in the room, how can you expect them to show up for this guy.
Mats and Wendel would never put up with this kind of nonsense in the room, bring them in and pep the boys up with a heart to heart.
If that doesn't work, strip the C off JTs chest. Kerfoot is a guy who the boys will listen to. Guy goes to the corners.
Trade Nylander, dipsy doodles and won't take it to the net.
Marner still has value in the eyes of the league. Look to swing for a PK subban or Risto in Buffalo. Heck Weber would be a great pickup.
Gotta fix the D, but without leadership what the hell are we doing |

we have 22 million tied up in 2 players - one of them isn't doing much more than chipping in the odd assist these days and I expect more out of 22 million. You don't like it? Too bad. Reality sucks sometimes!
And for the record, I never once spoke highly of Johnsson, I've been hoping the Leafs were going to trade him in a package for a D man. |
