wasnt free..he cost the Leafs a Free AHL'er
- senstroll

Underlying numbers look good.

The leafs bottom 6 has been putrid the last 25 games so I’m happy. Likely an improvement...he’s better than Timoshov I can guarantee you that

As predicted at the start of the season.

The Leafs aren't able to maintain a contending roster with mediocre defense and atrocious goaltending.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the other side

that trade is not going to move much, but it might stop a little bit of downward trend if you have to use lesser players to fill in

I wouldn't argue that Rielly is good defensively.

But the problem is simply that his absence pushes people into roles where they are facing competition that they are not qualified to face. There's simply not enough defensive depth to bump this many guys into these roles. It's not good when the absence of Codi Ceci is potentially an issue.

Shea Weber.

just sayin.

They're the worst in the NHL since he went down...sadly Rielly sucks though.
- AdamFrench

It's funny how the D has been looking super shaky without Rielly except for whoever is paired with Sandin (for the most part). He's a rookie so it's normal for him to screw up at times, but to me, he still looks sharper than a Barrie/Dermott/Muzzin/Holl

It's sad really. And no teams really want to trade D because most of them WANT better D anyway. Barrie could be the only "legit" bait saying he'w just not the right fit for the Leafs.

Darren Dreger said earlier this week (on TSN1050 I think) that a few Western Conference GM's asked him if the Leafs would consider moving Barrie

I think re modeling this bottom 6 a bit is important in getting this team to play better.

It’s a good start and it only cost an AHLer with some NHL upside.

I think Dubas trades for a D with term and it come with another player for the bottom 6.

I think having league average save % would be extremely beneficial.. Hopefully, we can get league average goaltending soon
- PatC80

When you have average goaltending behind this horrible lazy team defense, it makes the goalie look below average. Every mistake is heightened.
Freddy needs to stand on his head to save this teams year. Which has been the case for years.
Its too bad the team cant provide any support to freddy or any tender when they are not on their A game. The team simply doesnt have the ability to step up yet, they only care about playing globetrotter hockey.
Freddy needs to be better sure, but unless hes standing on his head day in and day out, the team seens like they will falter.

Only way I see this is if the picks are moved with a Roster player in another deal. A hard maneuver to make with NHL GMs being so uncreative.

you have to think that Tallon does not think Malgin is very good. He has been on a bad PDO streak this season..which..for those not paying attention (Tallon) makes a player look like trash.

he is wiling to deal him to the Leafs because he thinks it will help the Leafs suck...

anyways...Lets hope Malgin scores a couple against the panthers coming up

Pierre LeBrun
@PierreVLeBrun
Panthers GM Dale Tallon tells me the agent for Denis Malgin had asked him several times for a trade out of Florida. He got his wish.

Just glancing at stats I agree. Strange that they would send him to Toronto...unless they think they are getting a steal out of Marchment.

This... Defense is a team game.. I don't think a single top pairing D-Man shaves 60 goals against off the record...
- dunner84

Drew Doughty might. I'm not saying he would, but I also wouldn't say it's outside the realm of possibility.

At 5v5, timo has a higher pts/60 than engvall, johnsson, gauthier and clifford.

"Ceci is a top4 D"
"Barrie & Kerfoot for Kadri is a great trade"
"Don't need McSavey - rather go with Sparks"
"Petan is a great add"
"No need to trade Nylander for a top4 D"
"Leafs response to physical play will be the Power Play"
"Babcock is not the right coach for this team"
"Speed and skill alone can win a Stanley Cup in the 'new NHL' "

-- just a few examples of Dubas' thinking.
when will Leafs fans start to realise that Dubas might not be correct, and is actually hurting the team more than helping it?

There is room somewhere between .880 and "stand on his head".

13 games at .880 vs. 15 games at .886 and the goalie with .886 was getting all the second half of b2b for a while. The goalie at /880 achieved that during the easiest stretch of the schedule.

Dubas is so stubborn for not agreeing with your opinions.

UG’s and Max’s opinions are the standard everyone. Remember that.
