Probably because neither player will make either team any harder to catch. Leafs likely just wanted a body cuz Johnson is out long term. Panthers know malgin, and know having him on the Leafs poses no threat.

it's a depth NHL player for a career AHL'er who will play the odd NHL game.
in my opinion the Leafs win this trade slightly, but it is surely not a Kerfoot for Seth Jones type of trade...

Probably because it cost them literally nothing to grab a guy who can play bottom 6 minutes without being brutally caved in when he plays the lowest level of NHL competition? I had higher hopes for Marchment, but in his 4 game audition, he did not look like he could handle NHL competition. It's only 4 games, and he's only 24, but he sure isn't there right now.

Marchment is 24, Malgin is 23 and plays C in the NHL.. It helps our bottom 6.
