Kadri doesn't change this team or is results.
Willie is earning his cap hit. - Fakepartofme
Willie may deserve his cap hit but there is absolutely no chance he could mean as much to this team as Kadri. |

The guy who got suspended in consecutive playoffs? (frank) that selfish idiot Kadri. |

Bad reason to trade a player for a bad return especially when most Leafs fans would say the NHL's officials and suspensions are BS. Also funny because it shows how valuable he really was to the team if they lost the series because he wasn't there. Easier to reign a guy like Kadri back than it is to make softies play harder. |

Unfortunately for him he was the only guy on the team that would stand up for anyone at anytime. He’s exactly what the Leafs are missing now. |

You mean Kadri trying to drag his teammates into the fight during consecutive playoff series vs. Boston? Crossed the line because he played emotional and gave a (frank) about being a Leaf? He didn’t loose you guys those series. It’s a convenient excuse for a Putrid Trade, from the outside looking in. I like you Gull, but that team is weaker after that trade. |

It was mentioned last year that no one made it past the first round with a player making over 8 million on the cap. Will be interesting to see how it goes this year.
All the talk bout the lack of depth and all. |

He is a good player, but he’s an UFA. Trade him for a good return because he is a good player. - Steven_Seagull
this is an argument for trading perimeter willi as well 👍

That's an anomaly, not a trend. A lot of 1st round upsets last year but that's not going to happen every year.
Leafs problem isn't how much they spend on their top end players. It's the types of players that fill out the rest of the roster.
You can afford for Matthews and Marner to be skill, speed, soft players because they score so damn much. But you can't afford the rest of the team to be that way too. For every 11 million dollar skill player, you need a 2 million dollar crash and bang, heart and soul player. Balance the scales.
Same with the defense. Can't have a bunch of Marlies playing top pairing minutes and expecting to win the Cup, unless you're talking Calder Cup. Gotta have a high skill, high priced top pair and fill out the rest with ELC and cheap heart and soul guys. |

Can you give me an example of a team with soft skilled players making all the big money but won a cup? |

Our roster is massively imbalanced, in terms of $. William Nylander, was, is, and will continue to be the piece that needs to be moved to allow this team to be properly structured. That Dubas and Shanahan don't (or more likely refuse to) see this pisses me off. Having said that, I recognize there is no market at the deadline for that kind of ticket. He absolutely needs to be moved at or around the draft. |

Matthewa isnt soft. Marner has shown he can not be soft. Tavares hasnt been the same since he injured his wrist hand. You can afford nylander.
I think kapanen is the guy to go. Too many times he takes off looking for that breakaway. His goal scoring went to his head. Hes not his father. He coulr be if he wanted to be though. Perhaps better.. |

At this point the Kadri trade looks like a complete failure... Kerfoot is half the player Kadri is... real bad trade. - Hockey_Reverend
Barrie was supposed to be the key.
In *theory* that was a great trade. Kerfoot was close to Kadri production and you get one of the best offensive D-men in the league at a low price, giving them a chance to let Sandin and Liljegren develop.
I thought it was a real good move by Dubas at the time.
It simply hasn't worked out. Let's face it, very little has worked as expected this year. It is starting to feel like this is just one of those seasons.
The greater concern is that there is no indication of where the turnaround is coming from. It is tough to imagine this group playing with the effort and heart necessary to be successful.

Scramble to the playoffs and I feel like a series against Boston might actually help them find their Chi. Nothing like fear and familiarity to help you focus. |

This is a group that is more likely to stop playing when things don't go their way.
Hopefully they prove they changed. But i doubt it over a short amount of time. |

A+. Lot of wisdom in this comment.
There is a huge gap between those who think skill and statistical profiles alone can help you assemble a winning team. There are others who place a premium on character and believe the will and desire to win is the essential leadership ingredient for a championship contender.
