Having played 4th most games and facing the most shots means he's been heavily relied upon (on a bad defensive team) and still had the 7th best SV%. Same SV% as Rask, .917 over the past 5 years.

The reasoning why he has had large volume is subjective. This season, it's because they had another backup which couldn't be relied upon. He played more even with multiple personnel in management stating that the intention was to lighten his load. He's been the lesser of two evils.

Was looking at stats yesterday. Andersen has cost the leafs about 3 wins with below avg play. 6 points if he was just average.

Some teams get much better then that. With similar chances against.

I'm going to reply just to this because the rest of your post was largely irrelevant.

Large volume isn't subjective. It's objective. It's objective because the Leafs were not able to win games without Andersen constantly in the net. Why did the back-ups suck so bad? Because they were bad goalies playing behind a a bad defensive team.

A couple years ago Carey Price had a bad year. He wasn't playing well. His numbers from previous years, somehow, didn't change that fact and he is in another league from Andersen.

While we can consider the horrible team defense, we need to also consider that it works the other way. When a team is scared that every mistake is going to end up in their net, they aren't going to play with any confidence.

and that is no more an excuse for the forwards than team defense explains all the weak play from Andersen.

Also... virtually nobody here gave Hutchinson any benefit of the doubt whatsoever.

I don't think it's Andersen's fault. I think it's the club who should know what they have in Andersen. He's a middle of the pack starter, always was. On a great defensive team he can be an all-star. They decided to go all offence with most of the personnel and their systems. It doesn't work.

I also as a side note think JT and Marner should be put back together because they scored just as much as the MM/AM combo, but also shut down other teams best lines, much like the Boston top line, not as great at it but...

Team would be stupid to "play scared" with Andersen in net after how many games he bailed them out of over the past 5 years.

Because Hutchinson legitimately sucks as a goalie. But even his career numbers this year were below his career .905 SV%. Why? Because a bad goalie with bad defense and a coach that doesn't care to change the system gets you bad results.
