Okay so maybe Demelo doesn't get much more than this but man, I'm surprised Dorion didn't at least wait until the deadline to make this deal.

I agree he is a good player, but I don't think he is more than a 5th- 6th dman on a good team. Greene has more miles, but his reputation probably has a lot to do with his value and the return. And a 3rd comparable to a 7th? I don't know...
- AlexBoucher

He IS more than a 5th dman.

The fact that he had positive underlying numbers on a trash team should inidicate that.

As for the 3rd..I was simply stating that after the 2nd round it’s a crapshoot.

i keep saying it, Dorion is a moron and as bad as Muckler, the worst GM OTT has ever had.

Now watch him re-sign Pageau to a 8 year 6-7+m per deal when he has Zucker like offers or better on the table.

Andy freakin Greene got a 2nd and a prospect.

He’s 37
And has a 5m cap hit.

How could you honestly justify this move?
Even in a draft like this, a 3rd rounder is as good as a 7th.

In a league where salaries are determined by how many points you put up..what could he seriously have costed you?

It’s a great sneak move by Chevy

- Trilla

Greene brought back a 2nd next year and the prospect is worthless and is a cap/contract move; but yeah that's horrible by the Sens.

Dorion is flat out pathetic to net this nonsense given the deals that have been flying around. Andy Greene got a second? 38 year old Andy fricken Greene? Demelo makes literally everybody he plays with better. For a team with two left shot offensive Dmen, You don't just need A solid defensively responsible RD - you need two. Watch him go off board if he gets the #1 and drafts a goalie. I would have easily paid 3*3M, but would have walked in in the 2s. Seriously, if Dorion didn't work for free brown bag lunches, he'd be gone. What a fricken joke.

that's an embarrassing return, Dorion should be canned for that deal alone.

if you can't get more for Dylan Demelo than NJ got for Greene (considering that Demelo is twice the player) then you shouldn't be an NHL GM.

Demelo is a UFA at end of season. Would not be resigned.

This is a sweetheart deal for the CAP strapped Jets.

Let's see if another shoe drops this June when the Jets try to balance out their salary budgets.

This is a great deal for the Jets. Chevy owes Dorion.

YouTube 'we're a team Dorion' and watch the long version. It's sad, but this guy is our GM. The only way, and I mean the only way he comes out on top of this is if behind closed doors he's already clandestinely negotiated an extension with Demelo to be announced July 1st. If that's not the case, show this guy the door already.

Seems like a decent return? Maybe a 2nd but I’m sure Dorion got what he could. It’s tough cause Demelo is playing too 4 on a rebuilding team.

If that’s the market, the Sens did well.

Even if he is clandestinely negotiating an extension why take it up the ass on the trade? Get a real asset or better pick and then bring him back.

I could be wrong but I don't see how this only works if he goes to Winnipeg... unless they are carefully picking cities he'd want to come back to Ottawa from.

Can't compare DeMelo to Greene. Greene has that leadership/grit that Lou and Trotz love, and is always going to count for more (whether you agree or not) at the trade deadline.

DeMelo is a decent D-Man, but he's not a top D-Man. If you're adding depth for the playoffs as a rental, I'd bet most GMs would take Greene over DeMelo. I doubt Washington, Boston, NYI were calling on DeMelo.

How?

Dillon deal actually makes the Sens deal look worse

We can’t catch a freakin break here.

I think Sens fans have a different view of him because he HAS been a top 4 D-man, often a top pairing guy with Chabot. I'm only ok with the trade IF the fatty has other moves lined up with better returns. This may he been to get the tank going even harder because the Sens will certainly miss this guy

This is a good point - there's absolutely no reason to accept a low-end offer for DeMelo this far ahead of the deadline... any GM could have traded DeMelo for a 3rd round pick with 5 minutes to spare. That said, I feel like he was starting to be made out to be more than he was... a decent complement d-man, who deserved a chance to play elsewhere and maybe even cash in a bit as a UFA.

That said, hopefully this signals the end of them sitting on their hands... none of Pageau, Anderson, Hainsey, Ennis, or Namestnikov should be on this roster by the end of the month.

With the announcements of the other deals I wonder if that had any play in this. Dorion got a 3rd rounder before Dillon/Scandella are off the market and thus shortening the buyer list.
