An interesting tidbit:

On February 20, 2018 the Rangers traded Nick Holden to the Bruins for Rob O'Gara and a 2018 3rd round pick. This pick was eventually used to draft Joey Keane 88th overall. So now we have essentially turned Holden into Julian Gauthier...

Key will be, can he skate?
- OLDSCHOOL#6

Supposedly he’s a good skater. Anderson was on Panarins line in CBJ and almost had 30, I could see Gauthier being a good fit on that line.

Honestly, I have no clue. They won’t deal Wahlstrom, likely same with Wilde. Is Bellows and a first enough especially if he re-signs there? If CK20 plays with Barzal, yipes
- airjan23

Good thing we took Lindbom over him

With Puljujarvi supposedly back in play, maybe EDM would be interested in Kreider playing with McDavid? I’d do a deal with Puljujarvi being a main piece in a deal for Kreider.

That could work. What else is Edm sending back?

2 2nds? Not sure EDM would be willing to give up their 1st, to me the main piece would be Puljujarvi

With all the trades that have gone down over the last day or so it doesn’t seem like enough.

I don't think it's gonna happen. I'm sure they're interested but I can't fathom a) the two teams making a major trade like that and b) the Islanders having any sort of way to fit a $7M contract on the books with Barzal, Pulock, and Toews needing new deals.
- eichiefs9

Here's a hypothetical. Let's say the deal was Holmstrom and a conditional 2nd (becomes a 1st if isles win a round). a) is this even a reasonable offer? b) lets say they can figure out a way to sign the guys you mentioned. Would you even want both Kreider and Lee at $7M/per? Seems redundant

I have Puljujarvi valued relatively high, think he’s going to be a good player. I get why others may not though.

I know they have lots of injuries at the moment, but the Abs called up Martin Kaut. I wonder if that’s one of those showcase deals (ie-Kreider deal) seems lil fishy since he hasn’t done much in AHL

He’s not someone I’d want. He’s struggled/disappointed since being drafted. The guys id want in a return for Kreider as the prospect/main piece (depending on the deal) would be:
Trenin from NSH
Byram (unlikely) or Newhook from COL
Studnika or Beecher from BOS
Bellows from NYI
Kostin from STL
Puljujarvi from EDM

I feel like if the Rangers don't sign Kreider to an extension, he's going to end up signing on July 1st with a team that annoys me anyway, so why not get the best possible package for him regardless of the team if they do decide to trade him?

if its the Islanders, so be it

their fans will have to watch 2 or 3 of their prized prospects have careers at the Garden

I have ZERO problem trading him to the Islanders if the Isles pay through the nose

Rangers also need to keep in mind that they probably shouldn't acquire another player they'll need to protect in expansion draft, they are going to need to protect Gauthier or he could very well be the player Seattle takes.

Rangers would be silly not to trade Kreider at the highest value he will ever have. Lets not forget his outstanding disappearing acts throughout the years. Of course he is killing it during his FA year! No extension, blockbuster or bust.

I really don’t like the idea of trading a proven, top 6 power forward, who is also a locker room leader for a guy whose only achievement this far in his career is showing he can’t play on the league. Pulujarvi is no better to us than a 1st round pick, IMO. Maybe less.

while I understand this sentiment he has also never had a fellow left winger on the team like Panarin who the opponent literally has to come up with a game plan for and that opened things up for Kreider and Zibinajed

I am not worried about him disappearing moving forward, I think if he stays Kreider and Panarin form a very formidable duo as the top 6 left wingers until 2026

What is your gut telling you Jimbo. You know how I want to lock up a new deal but I just don't see it happening anymore.

Kreider's no trade blocks all the Canadian teams. I don't see this as an option
