Amazing that the direction of this season (after all that's happened) has come down to this moment and question of go for playoffs or not because of an injury to a star forward.
If I was GM, shutting down Boeser would have been my excuse to sell instead of buy. Looks like its a sellers market so could have come out with a bunch of additional picks.
But, that's easy for me to say playing fantasy GM. The pressure to win now must be enormous. - bloatedmosquito
I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that locker room conversation....
JB walks in:
'Well gang we're a point outta first and Boeser, Leivo and Ferland are gone so I'm selling, it's all about the draft now and you idiots better stop trying to win. Good luck out there." |

Really? Do Scandella, Demelo, Greene and Dillon scream quality to you? Cus 3 of them fetched a 2nd + and the other got a 3rd!!! - Brooks_Light
All of them scream that they are better pieces to add for a cup run than our spare parts... |

id argue that our spare parts align in skill with the likes of Greene/Demelo |

I think it's pretty clear that's where things are at. |

NO they don't -MAYBE Dillon but the other 3 are 5-7 Dmen - there's nothing superior to them in any way. |

I like it, our best/core players are young. They do need to make the playoffs now, but adding Toffoli us pretty exciting if they can sign him it's a bonus.
If they miss the playoffs though, and then they don't sign Toffoli (if he does well) that will sting. But...
Miller -EP - Toffoli
Boeser - Horvat - Pearson/JV
That's a decent top 6 with size too

Benning interview = pretty much answers every question and speculation that's been going on in here all day. - Brooks_Light
Pretty good interview, like the thought process in all of it. Sending a message to the team that you believe in them and are willing to pay to give them a better shot is important. Good for the confidence as well. |

Exactly! "Sorry Marky, I know you're having a career year... Petey and JT, you guys are rocking it, we love what you're doing... Quinn, you've reshaped this team.. but, I mean, Boeser – arguably our fourth best forward – is out for a little while, so we're gonna throw this season into the bin and try again next year."
Would be a huge slap in the face to every man on that team. |

So the TDL starts a week earlier now? Makes more sense from a GM perspective to get the guys for a few more games... but man, Sportsnet and TSN are going to be scrounging for stories that day |

I think teams have narrowed down their targets and want to try and scoop them up before other teams get a chance. I also think its evident that teams are willing to pay more to secure their guy than wait later and risk losing him. |

Interesting that he said they hadn't really planned on making moves (trusted in the lineup they had) but when they found out those 3 guys were done they said they owed it to the team/fans to show confidence to move forward rather than throw in the towel. Thats what the players wanna hear - some of the fans on the other hand |

I think the prices would go up even higher closer to the TDL with teams becoming more desperate. Maybe that Tyfoli 2nd cost turns into a 1st on TDL day. |

Maybe Kings thought Canucks weren't bluffing and would walk away if the deal didn't get done last night. Not sure why LA wouldn't wait as long as possible |

Ya, could go either way. Teams have their guy so not as much of a bidding war, or could go up because of the scarcity.
JB has shown he isn't afraid to spend a little more to get the guy he wants. It's worked out more so with the past couple trades, so hopefully it is going to pay off here as well |

They could be as high on Madden as some of our fans are. Some fans are saying he is "easily" our 2nd best prospect... |

Its like on eBay when you can BUY NOW or if you wait till the deadline and bid there's a chance you could get it cheaper, more expensive or not at all...

The Winnipeg Jets have acquired defenceman Dylan DeMelo from the Ottawa Senators for a 2020 third-round pick.
DeMelo has 10 assists and no goals. Stetcher 3 goals 7 assists. Time to flip him while people are throwing around dumb picks for D - NewYorkNuck
Makes no sense to move Stetcher after acquiring Toffoli. Stetcher still is an NHLer, pretty risky to try to compete for the cup when you replace NHLer with AHLers.
If anything, Benning will be looking to add more NHL Dmen. |

Believe #Canucks and #CBJ among teams that poked around on Martinez over last little bit. #njdevils helped #LAKings on return with Greene deal; original ask was a 2nd + prospect. Blake likely (tomorrow?) to land two 2nds with the term on Martinez's contract. |

Stetcher, Benn, Fantenberg... all similar options for a trade, especially if the market gets crazier and you can somehow recoup a 2nd. Have Rafferty and Sautner to fill in that 7/8 spot.

Selling when firmly entrenched in a PO race wasn't going to happen with this club.
I mentioned at years start that if this club was in a PO spot a week or two before deadline that something like this was gonna happen regardless of the Boeser injury.
Ownership wants this club in the PO's 'this year' and JB is trying to make it happen. If we don't replace Boeser's production the PO run is stalled. Is what it is.
I would bet that JB isn't even done yet lol
