You are right, it is valuable. What is more important, a pick that may or may not be as good as AG(let alone better), or kids like EP, QH, hitting their prime as a winning team who knows how to perform in the playoffs? We have depth for future top 6 and even top 9/bottom 6. What they need is to get a taste for the Playoffs and wanting more.

Every year is a deep draft . Last years was super talented

Kakko Hughes and Dach don't even have 10 goals or 30 points yet.

it will probably just make me more aggravated and him less tolerable.

I don't agree that Lind is a better prospect, but he's definitely closer to the NHL which is probably more important to management at the moment. I'm not concerned with the deal, it has its stings but you gotta pay to get talent and I think Toffoli was worth it.

With the injuries news coming out though, wow, management had a totally valid excuse to tank the rest of the year. The players probably appreciate the reinforcements to keep the season going

- WhiteLie

I think that would be a mistake, we would unlikely be bad enough to have a real shot at a top 10 pick, let alone a top 3(especially with our luck), and losing a 2nd this year and making the playoffs is a gamble worth it to me. What if we regress next year like the Oilers did after their performance a few years ago? I'd rather give a guaranteed pick in the 16(probably 20)+ range, rather than a possible lottery pick like SJ just gave up for EK.

No valid reason to tank when you are 1st in the division. You have to prop the team up and show support.

The risk of missing the playoffs still exists, but I agree that its worth the risk. I was just observing that they had a perfectly reasonable "out" to say that they were going to fill internally and give NHL experience to young guys to take bigger roles or call others up. For those who have been carrying the team thus far, its certainly a move they appreciate

3rd though Toffoli will definitely help us get back to, and stay at, the top of the division. Also BB could be back if we manage the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Where did it say BB out for 8 weeks? I just saw 3 weeks they will revisit?

That is a bummer though!

I also think it would be very difficult for us to miss at this point. We are 1 point out of 2nd in the division and 2 out of 1st. Oilers are missing McDavid for a bit and are more likely to lose most of their upcoming games than win. I also see us finding a way out of LE cap hit this off season, though it may cost us something to do it. That will allow us to keep Toffoli, also there is a strong possibility we get Ferlunds money off the books this summer.

I agree you prop them up, I'm just saying when you're 1 point away from 1st and 1 point away from 5th, it wouldn't have upset me if they balked at prices to keep them in it

We have had a good run of signing players including UFA's. Pearson will help Toffoli sign longer term, and I think offensive guys like green as a coach since he lets them fly around.

The X factor is how often Doughty trolls him for being on the Canucks.

I foresee LE going on LTIR this summer. He's seeing the squeeze coming, and it will either be Utica or LTIR. Either way he gets his money, and only one of the ways he doesn't have to be riding buses in a small town in upstate NY.

Which probably was the plan until they found out they had to shut down Boeser for the year. Most likely the trade all hinged on that. At this point with injuries to Leivo, Ferland wasn't a huge deal. But replacing Boeser was a priority if they wanna stay in the race.

How about Loui :50% (or max available) retained to Dallas? I would ask for a second, but get a 4th.

The finding Loui something to do, needs to end.

Or BOGO him.

Question: Setting aside for a moment the injury status for Ferland and Boeser, which would you prefer?

A. Giving up the 2nd and Madden to swap Schaller for Toffoli for the balance of this season, or

B. Giving up the 2nd and Madden at the draft to get rid of the last two years of LE's contract.

I listened to JB talk about it and it seems like 8 weeks from the injury itself. BB could be back for the Playoffs, which makes it even more important to get in.

I think that's part of the reason they went for it. If they get in, they still have a chance to ice their very best line up (minus Ferland) before their seasons done
