Agreed, the 2nd is open to the same criticisms we gave deals like Derek Roy in the past. I do think, though, that some combination of the 2nd/Madden has to do with the Kings taking back Schaller for the remainder of the year. If VAN had the cap space to take Toffoli on their current roster, I'd wager the price would've been a later round pick or lesser-hyped prospect...

(*triggers the hockeybuzz capologists *)

They should have worked Loui into this somehow. Madden is a good prospect maybe shoulda gave Kole Lind instead and kept madden for them to take loui i donno

are you actually going to have me spell out the difference between what the two clubs have accomplished in the last decade?

I know it's feasibly not possible, but what would it take to actually sign Toffoli? I like the trade it I'm being honest, but giving up that 2nd rounder is kind of ouch.

I'd imagine we would have to offload Eriksson before we can find a way to sign Toffoli? anyone else want to enlighten me a bit.

Though I agree that a 2nd round pick, and Madden could be important to our future success. I feel that playoff experience and battling to get in to those playoffs is more important right now. Players like EP, QH, BB, JV, AG, BH are our future, and Our 2nd and Madden could only hope to be as good as AG. Getting those players experience in the playoffs will help lay a foundation for the next 10 years of being competitive. Worry about who will be on the team in 5 years later. Adding Toffoli and getting BB back will give us a real shot at getting to the 2nd and MAYBE the 3rd round. That is way too valuable to our young star players. Also we have guys like Pod, Hogger, Lind, OJ, Rafferty that will be pushing for roster spots a lot sooner than Madden or this years 2nd.

Second rounder in a deep draft is very, very valuable and could become a much better than Gaudette.

I do like the team and agree the experience is invaluable. [/img]

we are talking about drafting players who have played over 100 games. Rash and I were talking about team drafting in the last decade, not 2 individual drafts or players. You told me that PIT tanked and got Crosby and Malkin (thank god you told me cause I would have never knew this).

The only area of the trade I didn't like pairs with rationale I read that with Pettersson, Horvat, and Gaudette the Canucks were set down the middle. Some scouting reports see Madden as a top 6 C, which if true, is better value than AG who seems like he'll be a 3C barring more "late-blooming". The timing for this deal obviously doesn't allow a little more patience to really know but given the lack of Center prospects in your list, it stings a little bit for me.

they have had 14 draft players since who have played over 100 nhl games compared to the Canucks 8 you dumb f*ck. the whole point of the argument was the value of draft picks VS the competence of the scouting department. They also have 2 stanley cups, 3 if you include 2009.

I took a stab at the Pens had 8 or less drafted players from 2010 play 100 games. Never claimed to be right just simply threw it out there.

Lind was definitely someone I was thinking had value and was more expendable give our recent picks of winger prospects. I don't think you can ever have enough depth down the middle
