See Don's last post.

Getting people who can fight is pointless. Their 4th liner takes a liberty at EP and our fighter fights him over it... Big (frank)ing whoop. We need someone that will take liberties with McDavid if they take liberties with EP. THAT is the only want to deter it. EP gets a head shot, McDavid gets a head shot. EP gets slashed, McDavid gets slashed. Why fight they guy who is there to take these liberties? By simply fighting him, nothing is solved. He does it again and fights again.

Just sick of our skilled players constantly getting bullied. I also just hate soft hockey

Thats fair, but equate fighting to playing tough is an antiquated notion. There arent too many players who fight anymore....let alone play hockey and fight. Having a Tom Wilson, I'd agree, is huge. There aren't too many Tom Wilsons around. But having a guy, who fights, for the sake of fighting is nonsense.

MacEwen can fight, just let him play....

We need to toughen up, agreed.

You'll always get complaints from people who don't people who don't think there should be fighting (or accountability) in hockey.

"Let the refs control the game", that works real good.

Especially in the playoffs when the refs don’t bring their whistles

Agree. If the deal works out and we get to playoff with the guys coming back online, we'll have a deep forward pool.

Yup, i'm not going to get in a debate about it in this thread. You'd think we would have learned from the past ffs.

My favourite Canucks team was...maybe 1996 (not sure on the year). Walker, odjick, brashear, stojanov, hunter, strudwick , May and Huscroft.

That d be crazy to move oli or rafferty

I'd guess they'd offer Utunen. Long shot to make the NHL, no way Simmonds is worth much more than that.

It’s not one guy that needs to “fight”, like Dorset did for us for those years. It’s the sense that the team fights, sticks up for each other, etc. Toffy isn’t a tough, or gritty player per se, but he came from an organization with enough d-bags that it was “you mess with me you mess with my brothers” Gaudette getting pissed and dropping them the other night was a good sign. I’d like to see Petey break a guys ankle, with his stick, for the abuse he takes

Heard from multiple sources that Stecher is likely done in Vancouver going forward. Whether that’s at the deadline or in the off-season remains to been seen. #Canucks

The one trend I really don't like about retribution fighting is that in many cases the offender just dropping the gloves is enough. Answering the call and bear-hug wrestling for <10 seconds is usually an insufficient response IMO, yet teams often consider the score settled

Game day!

My rundown of all of Tuesday's news from the rink, plus the setup for tonight's game against the Wild, in the new blog:

When you have certain players in the lineup that would be happy to engage with you, I think it would cut down on the liberties teams have been taking.

I think it helps, but I think for true effectiveness you want your team to follow it up by making the player afraid of footsteps, especially if the fight was 'meh'. Take every liberty within the rulebook afterwards and make it a game long retribution; those teams make you think twice
