It just roles off my keyboard nicely lol, I like the trade, you know my feelings, it’s time to compete.

That's where you and Lefty differ. He's a build through the draft/not just there yet but close kind of thinker.

Great trade, nothing is a disaster, pure hyperbole.
- Makita

If he’s a “pure rental” it’s a Cup or Bust trade that potentially cost us 2 future core pieces.

You can’t build through the draft forever, he got lucky with three picks out of forty three, time to supplement those players.

Personally, I like the trade, and I think we'll hear of a contract extension having been signed in a day or two. I see this as similar to when JB traded for Sutter and signed him immediately to his deal.

I also think with how weak the Pacific (and the Western Conference as a whole) is, the Canucks probably make it either as the 1st or 2nd seed in the Division and make it to at least the 2nd and maybe even to the WC Finals depending on the matchup.

Agree, it’s a huge risk, but the guys need to compete for a playoff spot, if he walks and we don’t make it, I agree, but I think it’s a good move.

Draft table surely he can recoup a 2nd rounder?

First decent season since 2014–15 and they're going for it.

OK.

I don’t believe they’re “going for it” in the sense that they feel they can win the cup, I think this is about a step in the process of improvement.

Donnie saw him over on one of the other canuck talk sites; canuck army, halfboards, one of those (frank)ing places.

Said he was strangely neutral on the Toffoli trade.

Could say the same thing about here and twitter.

I agree if TT is resigned but if not, then you only have some playoff experience as the result (if they actually make it) for a pick and good prospect. Is that improvement?

The experience, in my opinion, is invaluable for the young guys, I hate Benning but I believe he can recoup a second at the draft.

Maybe not

For a guy who claims to love draft picks he sure doesn't hang onto very many.

He's traded 17 picks away, (brought in 15, although of much lesser quality), probably the most of any GM, all while he's suppose to be rebuilding...I have no issues with the Miller or Toffoli trades though, it's time to start competing.

2014 - 2nd, 3rd & 4th traded away (brought in 1st & 3rd)
2015 - 2nd & a 3rd traded away (brought in a 3rd)
2016 - 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th traded away (brought in 3rd & 5th)
2017 - 5th & 6th traded away (brought in 4th, 5th, 6th)
2018 - 4th traded away
2019 - 3rd & 4th traded away (brought in 4th, 6th, 6th, 6th, 7th)
2020 - 1st & 2nd traded away (brought in 7th, 7th)

Five second round picks traded away now with not one ever coming back, and I though Nonuts was bad

I think if they make it at least to the 2nd round and are competitive enough to push whoever wins the Pacific in the playoffs to 6 or 7 games, even if TT doesn't resign, that's still a win in my books. Several contracts come off of the books and JB can reload in the summer after teams that didn't make the dance clean house or teams that didn't contend like they should have panic buy to try and get over the hump.

See this is where there is a difference of opinion, Madden seems to have proven himself in NCAA, but to me that is a reach to label him as a core future piece, and a second round pick is a crap shoot, certainly not a guaranteed core piece, although with Benning’s drafting genius I guess it could be a guaranteed core piece...

The cap situation is still a mess, there’s a ton of bad contracts on the books. Just because you’re compliant on day one doesn’t mean you don’t have issues, their flexibility is nonexistent.

But I agree, they need to take a step forward, although I’d be surprised if they win a round, just being there is important. I never would’ve guessed it at the beginning of the year, but then I saw Miller put this team on his back.

He's also not tearing it up like Boeser, Q. Hughes or Demko did when they were in the NCAA. On a bad team like a LA, ANA, SJ, NJ etc, he's probably a tweener 2/3C like Sutter was in his prime but no better and ends up like a Sutter trolling the 4th line/being scratched in favor of better players. Or else he's like Carter Bancks, a really good AHL 1C that never gets the call up because he's just not good enough to be an NHL top 6 C and too good to be an NHL bottom 6 C.

Look....we don’t need to poop all over Madden because Benning traded him, in the redraft sites he’s moved up to a late first, which speaks to Brackett’s drafting brilliance. The kid is small but he’s a legit good prospect, albeit a long shot imo, he’s a good young prospect.

Boy oh boy, they better make it in now or there will be hell to pay

Weird that I’m saying that. I thought they would be fortunate just to be competing for a wildcard.
