Even if we cant get a Byram, Timmins or Newhook absolutely would have to be in the deal with the current prices. And i'd be more than thrilled to get either of them. I'd rather get one of their D but Newhook is a stud as well

Who would have thought dumping the roster could be so fun and exciting?

in part it's because Shero actually did a great job in getting good assets for cheap. Vats and Palms were traded for an expiring contract and a 2nd+3rd round pick and the trade return on them is going to be much higher than what was paid for.

also, great job by Fitz to not wait until the last minute and sell players when he got a good offer. I think a lot of GMs get greedy trying to get the most return and the market can dry up in the end.

That fact we got Foote and a 1st for Coleman means Byram is totally doeable.
Avs NEED to win the cup, Byram wont help because he isnt o the team. Palms can put them over the edge.

Avs are stacked on D and wont be able to afford them all plus with their top offense.

- Leniwm1

Byram would be extremely exciting to get into our system.

I know we might not be competitive for a while, but I'm sure looking forward to watching the boys grow into their game. It's fun being young and full of potential. Better than watching Camms, Henrique and Zajac on the top line with a bunch of borderline 3/4th liners for the rest of the team. God those were some dark years.,

If Avs were in on Hall like people speculated it makes me wonder if the av's didn't want to give one up for hall and if so less of a chance with palms

Thats what caught my attention, Fitz has been aggressive with this. I like that.

If the package coming back was really strong then you have to move Palmeri BUT he is exactly the type of player who should be Captain of this team and kept here. So I'm torn on this.

My feeling is if the Devils plan to spend some money and restock some vets in the offseason it's fine. I also think it's a little crazy how we all act like players can't be very productive past 30. Yes we will have to pay Palmeri to stay but we have a ton of cap space.

While i agree, we need to remember Hall is/was just a rental. I know Hall is a better player than Palms but Palms still has another year left. So i think the Avs may be willing to move a bigger future piece like Timmins for him whereas they wouldnt have for a rental

I get the feeling Sakic isn't the easiest GM to work out a deal with.

He was insane with the Duchene trade and it's only because Ottawa is run by people even more insane that he ended up with a happy ending on that.

Boston got taken in the Stempniak trade but they out maneuvered us a bit for MoJo; so net I think they are reasonable and a good destination. We should make a killer deal with them and take back the Backes contract. Boston needs to win in the short term. AVs have a much longer window.

A lot of the trades we were making were on players with expiring contracts. Getting that extra year on Coleman for cheap, and next potentially Palms is a really big deal. I think the haul for Palmieri, a 30 goal scorer on a real nice contract, could get us some real premium assets. Interesting to see what teams are willing to put up.

Bratt out of lineup today. Is he hurt or trade bait?

I agree with this, taking Backes from Boston would up our return for sure. I think Palms in general, being a 30 goal scorer and having another year left on a fair cap hit, should get a very good return on its own, especially when you consider the prices already given up over the past couple of days for a Zucker/Coleman/Toffoli

Someone asked about who had the most 1st round picks in one draft. It was Montreal in 1974 with five. We could theoretically get 5 if we get one each for trades of Palms and Vats.

Looks like just a healthy scratch. Hughes onto the wing with Hischier/Palms and Merkley with Zacha and Simmonds

That'll be fun. Simmonds will drag down that line, but whatever. I always wondered if they'd try Hughes at wing. This is must-see Devils hockey.

Oilers losing Klefbom for a few weeks should help Vancouver, while hurting my fantasy team lol.

But why? Didn't he literally have an assist and scored the shootout game winner last game?

I will be excited to see Hughes on the wing, I think by taking away some responsibilities a centerman carries, we can get more out of him for now.

Not loving the idea of trading Palms, his work ethic and drive give a great example to the youngers guys and these kids need mentorship. On other hand, the prospect of picking 4 or 5 times in the 1st isn't terrible!

Boeser's injury may be more serious than initially thought, may be done for the year. Not good

It wasn't figurative.

Don't get the move but maybe he's hurt. Or the tank is on.

Could be the flu. Or Coronavirus. Or the Clap. That's still a thing but only us old guys call it the clap.

Hate to be such a POS human being but for every injury I feel like the pressure gets ramped up on the other GMs to make a move.

if that's the case

Bratt needs to take Jimmy Dugan's Advice .. on the clap.

..
Hard to believe that they would trade bratt... has chemistry with Nico and is under Devils control for a several more years at reasonable price per production

But if the price is right... especially for a D-man

Here is a not so much fun fact about the Devils lack of ability to scout and draft wisely.

Since the 2005 NHL draft there has been only 4 players drafted by the New Jersey Devils that have amassed 100 total NHL points.

Honestly this stat blew my mind and if we ever wonder why we are where we are as an organization this says it all.

What I like is that with new GM we got a lot of solid young players outside of the obvious 1st overall selections. Feels like for the first time as Devils fans we get to actually see our young players become real contributors.
